Tookie, I was planning to get some pullets from Bird&Bee Farm back in April but they didn't have staff to assist me on a Monday (my only available day, due to my travel situation). So I went with my second choice, Mother Clucker's in West, TX. So far, so good, once I finally confirm that my 3 pullets are indeed pullets.

Ah, okay! That's too bad you couldn't get any there.
Hopefully your pullets you got are actually pullets!

Haven't been here in awhile!...I have extremely sad news, as of Monday, I lost my dog, Gracie, to what I think was a cougar! I was feeding and watering my birds before going to work, it was 4:20am. She barked twice, then let out a blood curdling scream or yelp for about 3 seconds, then silence! I don't think it was a coyote cause she was taken to be fed to whatever it was cubs or pups. Coyotes will kill a dog but usually don't eat that kill. She only weighed about 6lbs...not as big as a jack rabbit.

There have been more sightings of cougars in the San Antonio area in recent months and especially up into the hill counrty. Just everyone watch your small animals when they are outdoors!

I have 3 Wheaten Marans cockerels, 2 weeks old, free. They are from my birds, great type, and dark eggs.

Seems a bit of a stretch to assume a mountain lion killed the dog based on the assumption that coyotes don’t carry off little dogs and eat them.

Well, the last time we had a cougar in the area, (confirmed) the deer were bedding down right up against the house. The past few weeks to the incident, the deer have been bedding down next to the house.

anybody in Central Texas? I'm not new to chickens (2019 start) but I am new to Belton/Temple and city chicken keeping. I'm not quite used to city regulations; thought I did my homework before I bought my house. Got a visit from code enforcement which panicked my daughter with autism who code enforcement talked to (she's 32) when I was at work. It also put my neighbor on high alert. I have a fenced yard, a chicken tractor with coop and attached run...I hate the barnyard smell so I have power washed my walkways, coops (two that fit four large birds each) patio, furniture even before code enforcement. I have to get a fowl permit.

I'm about 45 minutes from there, but in a very rural area, so none of that going on here. Hopefully they don't give you too much trouble getting your permit and you can go on chickening in peace! Welcome to the Texas thread!

Anyone from Houston who has ducks/ducklings available?

Seeking ducks, preferably rouen, mallard or cayuga in Houston area to provide flock companionship to our lone rouen duck hen who lost her flock due to racoons attacking through a vulnerable point in the kennel fence, which has since been fixed. She's been alone for 6+ months now, & I feel great empathy for her loneliness —and that she needs a new duck/bird family.
Assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much

I’m south of you in Burleson county, I have a ranch here, I also have ranches in Leon and Coleman counties.
My son and his family live on the Leon county ranch, we are planning on raising Wyandottes up there.
Here at home I’ve been hatching dual purpose crosses for meat for us, it’s what ever I can get from friends and family, I have chicks pipping now, plus 47 in coops.
I set Guinea eggs this week.
I have two NR 360 incubators, I may get bigger ones later on.
I’m getting older and tired of bumping around with cows. I’ll let the youngsters do that and I’ll raise chickens.
Im Sick of the store bought chickens, so I decided to raise my own for meat.

Hi I'm in gilmer, tx and can you guys plz tell me some close hatchery/nurseries. I'm interested in buckeye chicken( the gilmer buckeye spirt has spread to the chickens!) I think it will be good because people around hear have strong buckeye spirit. And I want to breed to make a more natural meat bird.

I'm not finding any hatcheries in Texas that sell them. Maybe try craigslist or Facebook. Good luck with your search.
