I live in the Austin tx area. Does anybody know or have experience with farm rescues, chicken sanctuaries, or other pet sanctuaries around austin?

Does anyone know anything about these locations or have any experience with them?

Austin Animal Center is the city-run shelter. They are understaffed and consistently overpopulated due to people being irresponsible about cats/dogs. I highly doubt they would provide an outcome that matches your desires.
Humane Society is where I adopted one of my dogs and they're great, but no idea about chickens.
Chaperone'd my kids' field trip to Crow's Nest Farm and it seems like a great facility, but I don't know if they accept chickens.

One of my jr chicken farmer's classmates that ended up with an unwanted roo, gave theirs up to someone on Craigslist after visiting the place and being content with the environment. Of course, YMMV.

Good luck.

Haven't been here in awhile!...I have extremely sad news, as of Monday, I lost my dog, Gracie, to what I think was a cougar! I was feeding and watering my birds before going to work, it was 4:20am. She barked twice, then let out a blood curdling scream or yelp for about 3 seconds, then silence! I don't think it was a coyote cause she was taken to be fed to whatever it was cubs or pups. Coyotes will kill a dog but usually don't eat that kill. She only weighed about 6lbs...not as big as a jack rabbit.:hit

There have been more sightings of cougars in the San Antonio area in recent months and especially up into the hill counrty. Just everyone watch your small animals when they are outdoors!
Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry to hear that! That's awful. :(:hugs:hit

There have been cougar sightings around here, so it very well could've been one. I know one was sighted recently a few miles away from me at a trail head!

Tookie, I was planning to get some pullets from Bird&Bee Farm back in April but they didn't have staff to assist me on a Monday (my only available day, due to my travel situation). So I went with my second choice, Mother Clucker's in West, TX. So far, so good, once I finally confirm that my 3 pullets are indeed pullets.;)

RE: rehoming Percy hen, why not list her on BYC under the Buy-Sell-Trade section if you haven't already. Be sure to put your general location in the subject line and include a photo of Percy along with a description of her breed and age. There might be a FB group in the Austin area if you haven't tried yet.

RE: cougars, I wouldn't mind having one around if they'd agree to eat feral pigs and not chickens. :D
