I just had to share - I got my order from Cackle Thursday, late morning. I had 16 losses of chicks, ducks and turkeys. I KNOW this is because the temperature dropped below freezing two nights in a row AND they should have been here Wednesday.

Anyway, I called Cackle Thursday and told them of the loses and they wanted me to call back today to give them the full total.

Just got off the phone - not only are they replacing the ducks, turkeys and chicks I specifically ordered, they are ALSO replacing the chicks, ducks and turkeys I lost out of the Hatchery Surprise!!!!!!

Yes the folks at Cackle hatchery are really nice folks. I can't say enough how much I like them. Congrats on your good news.

Nice folks and they do try to make it right, just got an order from them last Fri, the order was shorted, birds falling over dead left and RIGHT, they did make it up and send more this past Fri and 3 are already dead-just brought another into the house brooder to watch. Its soooo sad. Somthing is NOT RIGHT with their birds, or at least the breeds I got. Have raised up over 300 this season with only 2 (yes 2) losses due to corner bunching once put outside. So what's going on with Cackles birds I dont have a clue! But I sure would order from them till some time passes and they clear up whatever funk their chicks (again at least the breeds I got) have. Now the ones that have made it a weelk look like they will be really nice birds! I do medicated starter and this time even broke out the electrolytes, but still the losses are high.

Ill be going back to Idea and McMurray (despite their outrageous prices) after this exp. Im glad Im an adult, if this was a small order for a child it would break their heart.

I had only two die last year and they were DOA. This year I was surprised by having 16 die, BUT i know it was because they were in transit TOO LONG and the temp dipped down below freezing the two nights prior to getting them. I DO NOT IN ANY WAY BELIEVE it has anything to do with the quality of the birds. I have been very pleased with the chicks I have gotten from them. I am sorry for your loss, as I 'm sure we all are. I was saddened by my chicks that died, too. It's a risk we all take when we buy chicks through the mail.
