Cackle Hatchery issues (I do not suggest using them)

for them to send a deformed chick and not at least be willing to replace the chick that's horrible business.

No, because the deformed chick was an EXTRA.

The poster got the correct number of live, healthy chicks: 6 paid for, 1 free that the hatchery offers with any order, AND the deformed chick to make a total of 8.

So the hatchery does NOT owe any money or replacement.

(I think the hatchery should have culled the deformed chick instead of shipping it, but that is a personal judgement that has no bearing on the rest of this.)

Exactly my point!

How convenient! Why couldn't the deformed one have been a part of the 6 originals?

Yes. I think it all boils down to cackle maybe needing to bring it to their employees attention not to let it happen again, that it looks bad on the hatchery reputation. I'm sure the employee just wanted the best for the chick and wated to give it a chance. Im not so sure i wouldn't have snuck the little guy in there too, lol. And the chick with extra appendages doesn't really reflect on the quality or health standards either. If it were early identical chicks, there would've been no abnormal looking yolks to dispose of during candling. It was just a perfectly normal (yet rare) act of nature :) little clover is special 🤩🥰

If the deformed chick was one of the original 6, then the hatchery also included a replacement in the same shipment, so the poster STILL got what they paid for.
Why would any hatchery send a deformed chick to start with? If you know one is deformed then cull it and send a healthy one!!!

When I began my search for chicks earlier this spring I looked at their website but found that they charge extra for small orders. There are other hatcheries that do the same but for them to send a deformed chick and not at least be willing to replace the chick that's horrible business. Sorry you weren't treated better and thanks for sharing. I will scratch them off my list of hatcheries!
They did replace the chick, they replaced it with TWO extras.
