Cackle hatchery on albc breeders list?

I seen where cackle hatchery was on the albc conservation breeders list. What are yalls thoughts on this?

It makes some sense. Cackle does breed a few rare chickens, and according to several comments I have read, they're actually fairly good about preserving breed standards (depending on the breed). My guess is that some outlying sub-farm is the one truly deserving of praise, though.

The birds I've received from Cackle, several breeds, over three years, have been decent examples of their breeds.
There are so few sources for many chicken breeds, I think it's reasonable to include them.

I agree. Cackle has some really nice birds, and some rare breeds too.

I don't know enough about it but I do know their regular birds are very commercial, but I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt in their preservation efforts. I would feel more comfortable obtaining rare breeds from an actual breeder if available. Really though maintaining breed standards is challenging even for private breeders so I'm confident they're probably at minimal standards and if you didn't really care if your chickens toenails meet the high standards of the APA, it would probably be not a bad option to get some unique birds.

I've seen articles where Cackle buys new breeding stock regularly to improve their breeds. The also have videos of their breeder bird pens online. That says alot in my book.

If they pay dues they effectively have a right to be listed. One contradiction I noticed with duck breeds is they list themselves as having rouens when they don’t have the exhibition type that has numbers low for concern. They have the utility type that has a large population.
