But are meyer birds good enough to breed with males to keep the "orpington" strain or "sussex" strain, or are their genetics to weak for natural reproduction from eSignal hatchery born?

If you want a "good breed or show" bird I suggest you get them from local breeders or hatch your own from established strains if possible. The only birds I breed or show are my Seramas and I would never order those from a hatchery. Good luck!

no not at all I don't want show birds or a very large order I just want "brown egg layers" for my backyard flock, such as australorps, orpington, Sussex, barred rock, and jersey Giants

Do you have a local feed store that sells chicks? I get mine from Family Farm and Home and my birds from there are all so healthy and sweet! and no shipping!!!! But you would have to wait until spring...

Just decent sized meaty, brown egg layers.and it's a relatively small order 30 chicks MAX, the reason I want more is because I had 2 buff orpington 1 lavender orpington and an RIR but we had a possum problem ( 2 of them) so now we're left with 1 buff Orp and the Lavender Orp the possum have been taken care of and the 2 hens are happy free rangers but we need to replenish our loses with nice healthy egg layers specifically those beautiful breeds, they're hardy.

Just another report from the front, two years into our Cackle flock: We have lost a couple birds. We initially had five each NH Reds, barred Rock and Speckled Sussex. While our Cackle NH Reds have laid huge brown eggs dutifully since before 20 weeks, one has developed ongoing issues with her egg laying apparatus and is currently eggbound and not long for this world. A second NH Red died inexplicably when we moved the coop. It's probably worth noting that we had eggs from the NH Reds as early as 13 weeks; very premature. One of our Speckled Sussex was sick and droopy off and on for six months, and really hadn't ever been a healthy bird; I finally had to euthanize her as she seemed downright miserable after the 18-month molt. In general, the BR have fared the best of the the breeds, only experienced a light molt, and are still all going strong. Though Lavender Brown (LavLav for short), our alpha SS, still rules our roost!

Greetings! Brand new chicken owner here! Forgive me as I will most likely use incorrect terminology, but I am learning and welcome any corrections/advice/help!

I just received my order from Cackle Hatchery today and I couldn't be more pleased.

For starters, I ordered 7 Speckled Sussex female chicks (I requested all females) because I wanted friendly birds that would provide insect control, allow interaction with myself and family, and to provide my family with eggs. Their hatch date was 3/15, and at 0100 hours, on 3/15, I received a shipping confirmation email. At 1300 hours, on 3/16, I received a phone call from my local USPS that my ladies were ready to come home. Super fast shipping. Awesome!

Every single chick was bright eyed and peeping when I opened the box they were delivered in. Once the chicks were happily introduced to their brooder I further deconstructed the delivery box to find there were 3 warming packs (which were still warm) keeping the interior box warm. Again, I was very impressed with CH's successful attempt to get their chicks to me alive and well.

All in all, I will order from them again as my first experience with them was one I won't soon forget.
