Cackle or Meyer

Quote:
How old were your EE's when they started laying?? I have 4 adorable Cackle EE's (17 weeks old).

Mine started at 28 weeks and continued until about 32 weeks when they all began laying their first egg. I think all of them are laying now. With winter here I'm not getting that many eggs each day, and it's hard keeping up with which ones are laying which eggs, I have 12 EE' hens.

Cool. thank you Draye

They started laying at 28 and 30 weeks. The blonde chicken, Goldielocks, started at 28 weeks and is a real sweetheart. I was going to choose two other chicks ahead of her and now she's my sweetest hen. My wife was debating between her and another similar colored chick. She squats for me any time I appear and loves to be picked up. She's also one of my best layers. She has some of the biggest eggs now and competes with my Australorp and two BSLs for production. The other is also a good layer but we will see what she can really do when the weather gets warmer. Needless to say I get a lot of green/blue eggs to go with my browns.

This is the original group, we found a nice family for the other 3 and I often wonder how they turned out but alas....

And GordonBurrito thankyou....I can't wait for my EE's to start laying!!

I have never ordered from Cackle.
I have ordered from Meyer for the past 4 years with happy and healthy results. Most of my free range flock and EE's have come from them. You can see them and my EE's on my website. My first EE roo and my last EE roo were from them. Both photos on my website on the EE page.

In terms of price these two are the same for what I want-Cuckoo Marans, Dominiques, EEs, Australorps, and BOs.

Is one better than the other in terms of any of these breeds? Better service? Any suggestions?
I ordered from Cackle and did not receive notice of shipment! Ok I had a spamblocker on my email- but they did not call either! Luckily the post office called my 2nd number. The chicks were OK. The Wellsummers and the Cream Legbars were a little weak but I gave them electrolytes and boiled egg yolks and everybody did well. I ordered only females. 4 Wellies, 3 Legbars, 3 Cinnamon Queen and 5 Easter eggers...I got 2 VERY noisy very curious Easter Egger roosters...I already had 3 roos............
