We ordered some chicks from Cackle and got our tracking info that the birds were shipped yesterday (Wednesday - 5/7/14). I assumed a day or two, but the tracking says they won't be here until Saturday (5/10/14). We live in the middle of BFE, so our shipments are often times a day later than projected. Has anyone else run into shipping times that seem a little long?

I'm just worried if they were shipped Wednesday, they were probably born Tuesday. That gives them until Thursday/Friday to be okay on the yolk alone. But i'm worried if the shipment is Saturday (or worst case, Monday)...that i'll be opening a big box of dead chicks.

Just curious to see if anyone has run into this before and what i should expect?

I don not understand why hatcheries do this. To me, shipping should alwys be on Monday or Tuesday. I've lost most of a shipment to the same thing.

If they don't make it, I would be contacting them and telling them to resend chicks, and then they had better be shipping them out on a Monday. I don't like the fact that they are doing that at all. I have some that I am suppose to be having shipped out on the 12th, they had better send them out on the 12th and not the 14th. I don't want a weekend delivery. We have a man postal worker on the weekends and he is really bad for delivering my mail to the wrong house. I always end up with all of my neighbors mail, and they get mine.

I guess it was a false alarm - my tracking number must have been drunk. The chicks arrived this morning - all alive, very active and seem quite healthy so far, even the "extras." I guess it was just a glitch in the system.

same panic here!!! when I got notice of ship from Cackle and checked the tracking # I about had a heart attack! I emailed Cackle telling them it's cold up here (3 wks ago) and those chicks won't make it!!! Got an email back right away from the owner herself telling me not to worry that they have a good relationship with the post office and don't pay attention to what the tracker says. Sure enough, shipped Wed., arrived Fri. early a.m. all live and happy!!!

Moral of the story? Don;t believe what the PO tracker tells you.

I think this is the best advice. Ship on Monday Tuesday so that if ever a problem there not stuck
in a post office over the weekend!

Yes that is what i do with eggs as well. I had someone tell me on e-bay to ship them on a Thursday I did it even though I worried big time. But they got there Saturday. However that was close by next state over. However we never know what could happen between here and where deliveries are made so why even take that chance.

Got the chicks today. I have to admit NN's are smarter then BO's and Delawares. They went straight to the water and it took the Delawares and the BO's all of 3 hours to figure out the water. Even after i tried multiple times to show them it was water.

I may end up losing the NN cockerel though he acts weak and I really need that. However I noticed the Delawares and BO's seem to be lots more vocal. So am worrying about that big time. I will find out in a few hours if they don't quiet down any. Could also be from them not drinking the water, so I will give them a few hours.
