Caed board bedding

I have been using for a little over a week. I was mixing it up daily. The droppings seemed to be absorbed enough, I have a small flock of 15. I did however find a local tree farm that sells pine shavings for 1$ per 100# bag if we load it ourselves and bring our own bag, so I'm not going to continue doing the work for the free cardboard. But I do recommend it if you have a small coop and a tight budget, just be sure to use a good amount and give it a good stir each day.

Are they dried or from fresh cut trees?
Beware the sap and possible mold growth form moisture laden woods chips.
