I have a golden polish hen. We finally got her a roo, caged them together and now she won't lay. She laid everyday when she was in the yard. Their cage is plenty big, they have food and water. They've been in there a little over a month. I don't know what the problem is. Any advice?

I agree with above post. She is likely put under stress from being caged.i understand the cage is large but going from free range in your yard to being caged no matter how large the cage is , it's likely upset her. And being caged with the rooster is causing more stress. May I ask why you caged them ? She MIGHT get used to the cage after a bit and begin to lay again. It depends on her stress leveel. It's common if birds are moved for them to stop laying for a bit until they become comfortable in their new surrounding. Hope this helps and best wishes.

We caged them to get pure blood chicks. We put another hen in with them. I know they stop laying when being moved, but for how long?

It's probably just the initial stress of change. Cage not ideal really...especially when used to being free range. She will adjust, probably give it a couple days. Is the rooster new? Being locked up with a brand new, scary male probably doesn't help. Put something tasty in there so he can make a fuss of it and give it to her as a gift. Lots of treats...my hen was panicked by seeing a fox for the first time a couple days ago, I gave her a cuddle and sat with her for a bit, and went and got lots of seedy bread that she loves, within minutes seemingly all was forgotten.
Maybe hang out with your hen for a bit? Is she tame/ She may appreciate some cuddles and reassurance.x
