Newbie here. Caygua drake has been limping on one foot. He's beginning to not put any weight on it. I researched the possibilities that could be causing this. First, I thought his knee was dislocated due to what seemed like it was sticking out a little bit further than the other leg. But he moves it in the water. Secondly, I thought maybe bumblefoot. Since I'm not experienced in this, I definitely would feel better having some different opinions/insight on what's wrong with this big guy.

  • Noticed the limp around 4-5 days ago; Started Epsom soaks the day I noticed. Daily routine now
  • Water therapy during the day
  • Normal eating; drinking; bathroom habits
  • Worried about an infection due to it being warm to the touch on the ankle & knee cap; he kinda pulls away when touching those spots.
  • Callus like bumps on bottom
  • Separated from the rest. I have him in a small pen outside during the day. That way he still gets to interact with the others. At night, he's in a dog cage by himself. Yet I still have him set up by the others.
Definitely want to get him feeling better & waddling around with his flock again. Any advice and/or input would be greatly appreciated. Pictures attached

Can you move it? Have you checked for breaks or swelling in the joint?

Yes, I can move it. He'll move as well just more so when he's in water. There is swelling on the ankle area, but it's only warm to the touch on the upper part of his leg
I don't see any obvious bumblefoot. I might suspect a sprain.

I personally would confine him in a smaller area for a while so he's forced to rest it, and see if it improves.
