Calcium ideas...No Oyster shell at feed store the last month

Not sure I would give them the coral stuff. How much sodium does it have? The chickens don't need a bunch of extra sodium.

I also save eggshells to give back to the chickens...our eggs are very hard. we just layer feed also...

I'm surprised your feed store doesn't have oyster shell!!!!

Most carry it in 25lb and 50lb bags.
Is this the same feed store where you get your chicken feed? Chicken feed and oyster shell go together!!
Do you know any other customers of this feed store that also have chickens? Perhaps if more of you'll chicken people keep asking for it they will get some in stock for you'll.
I always give back the eggs shells to my girls, I just collect them in my kitchen scrap collector along with veggies et al and toss out in their yard.......I do crush the shells (so they don't look like eggs.......don't want to give the girls the idea that eggs are for THEM to eat).
But, as has been said above, between a good quality layer pellet/crumble and egg shells your girls should be fine.

My feed store has a large warehouse of feeds for several farm animals and has been in business for years. They do not carry oyster shell, grit, or Blu-Kote.

yes I know almost all the customers that buy their chicken feed from there as well. Its a big horse ranch and specialty saw mill, and they carry all the livestock feed for the area. the thing is none of us are able to get BOSS or Oyster shell and the owners can't figure out why their orders are not being met.

they get the feeds from different distributors in the Toronto/Markham area. All we get from all of this is that there is some sort of issue and when they get it fixed all should go back to normal. After reading a few of the responses I am not worried as much I will just continue giving them the yogurt and eggshells like I have been. We've all being doing business with the owners of the ranch for a long time one way or another, and its funny the only complaint all of us have is that they needs to hire someone to answer their phone....lol...

HI There -

We try to supplement with veggies - in this case collards are high in calcium so maybe you can try that?

Best of luck,
Empathy
