Package weighs 107g
Package contains 94.6g of Sulfadimethoxine
Package is therefore 94.6 ÷ 107 = 0.884 = 88.4% pure (12% filler)



Package weighs 535 grams
Package contains 473 grams of Sulfadimethoxine
Package is therefore 473 ÷ 535 = 0.884 = 88.4% pure (12% filler)


88.4% = 884 mg per gram
One teaspoon weighs ~3 grams, so one teaspoon = 2652 mg per teaspoon

Per gallon directions on the package
Chickens = 0.05% = 1892.5 mg per gallon for 5 days
Turkeys = 0.025% = 946.25 mg per gallon for five days


Okay... but what if you want to dose an individual orally? That's where it will
get tricky.


I'm going to pick a dose of 50 mg/kg and a 100 gram chick
100 grams = 0.1 kg, so it's 0.1 x 50 = 5 mg needed for a chick that weighs
100 grams.


Most people don't have a gram scale, so I think the easiest way to dose a
100 gramchick at 50 mg/kg would be to mix 1/4 teaspoon (221 mg) in
10 ml of water. Now you have 10 ml of water = 22.1 mg/ml.
0.1 x 50 / 22.1 = 0.23 (0.226) ml per 100 grams.


Gotta go think about this and double check, but will come back and update it.

I would like to publicly thank Kathy for helping me with dosing my sick chicks. In another thread I explained that my flawed math let to dosing my chicks by ten times too much. The sulfa drugs are fairly safe and it did not harm the birds but was way over the dosage my vet prescribed of 50 mg per kg.

On the upside the SulfaMed-G was very effective as confirmed by my fecal float exams. Pre-treatment slide showed more cocci than I could count and after three days of (over) dosing the slide was completely clear showing zero cocci.

How many birds is it suppose to treat? With some medicines they will list how many birds it treats. Such as like 10 grams of the active drug treats 25 chickens.

It depends on how much your birds drink.
