Gas-X really works for bloat. You can get the little gel strips that melt on the tongue.

I lost a calf once to bloat, so I hope that yours makes it okay. I keep some bloat medicine from my local animal supply store in hand just in case. But if caught early, some extra straw like hay can help.


I just had one of my hereford heifers give me a scare. We thought that she was dead or dying from bloat. But it turns out that she likes to lay on her back with her feet in the air. (Totally freaked me out, then she got up and was chewing her cud. It's like she was laughing at us.)

She didn't make it through the night. I am very sad but had already come to terms with the real possibility that she would not surive the night.
She was in alot of bad pain and I would rather her go on and pass if it was going to happen instead of laying there suffering for a prolonged period of time.
It's very hard to watch a animal go through something like this and know that there just isn't much you can do to help. I felt so useless.

Yes it is such a sad feeling when we cannot save the animals but I know you gave it your all and then some...
