Calibrating a Digital Thermometer/Hygrometer

What are acceptable temps to go along with this 40 - 50% humidty? mine is staying between 98.0 (when I opened it to put in the hygrometer) and 100 even.

We're on day 16. I never raised the humidity because the air sack isn't shrinking as fast as I'd like it to. I started at 60% and let it go down from there. After I started I read the posts on dry incubation and decided to let it go dry. I sucked most of the water out and let it drop on its own afterwards. I have not added water since I set the eggs. We have been having a lot of rain so the hummidity has been fairly high outside.

Nope only opened it to put the hygrometer in it and take it out to calibrate it and two days ago to add a bit of water. I am trying not to open at all except with this stupid hygrometer thing. LOL And never long enough for it to drop more than a couple 10ths of a degree.

yes, Im in texas and hot and very humid here...so I keep my room where my bator is at a set temp...I control that room for my bator...this way I get set readings

i have two springfields. one reads 2 degrees hotter than the other. so you might want to double check the temp reading. i learned the hard way. very late hatch....

Ok.. I understand that but, everything I've been reading for several months now and even more in the last two weeks says to keep the humidity @ 50%, give or take 5 %... So, if I allow it to go lower, it won't hurt anything? I'm getting confused now... I don't want the poor chicks to be swimming but I don't want them shrink wrapped either.. how low is too low during days 1 - 18?

I did with mine....I have the thermometer that came with the bator in there reading just a hair under 100 .... another one in there reading 99.6 and the stupid Hygrometer was reading 102.4 degrees. That is what led to my panic earlier and my calibrating the thing tonight. LOL

I spoke to Speckledhen about this at length on the phone...she has had a good hatch at 30% humidty and has successful hatches keeping the humidty at 40 - 50% until day 18 and then jacking it up to 70% and doing the lockdown. that seems to be the overall consensus around here. So, that is what I am gonna do with these babies. Even your incubator instructions will tell you that if in doubt less is better the first 18 days.
