Hi There!
I just went out to check on my bantam flock and my Roo seems to have been severely pecked by one of his flock mates (he has 5 girls).
Do these photos look like pecks?
They have lived together since hatch. Hatched on May 1st. EC5657D6-3A18-4ABF-A126-110DE832B5DC.jpeg 3DFA7094-E86E-4B5E-B880-113C3608A8F1.jpeg 7E7FE6D5-7AB8-40E5-86BF-4AEB67E1CD60.jpeg 45D86A63-3FE3-419C-9FFE-8363B5844DC8.jpeg

I’m guessing he’s some sort of mixed color (maybe calico x blue mottled), aka a project calico
Either way, I just call him my calico Roo. He’s adorable and beautiful coloring. These photos don’t do him justice with being rainy and dark.

Do you know what the black spots are? Are those peck marks from the pullets he is housed with? (The main reason for the post) :)

In case it does not wash off:

Do you feed them wet mash?
If so, this can lead to the hens pecking the adhering feed off his wattles and thus getting into the habit leading to peckmarks or even bleeding/severely injured wattles as the male will usually allow the hens to do so.

Maybe observe more closely to find out which hen is the culprit or instigator.

Just pellets and oyster shell on the side for the hens. But nothing wet. It was raining so it maybe the feed got wet and he wore it all? Possible. This is helpful. Thank you!
