Calico Cochin Thread

I just want to know if these are calico Cochin? I had ordered a duccle chick and got her I'm New to this but pretty sure she's not duccle, then was given the roo because they look good together. I'm just curious. Any ideas ?

Beautiful babies Wildwood cochins!!!

Hi all, I have been lurking on several of the cochin threads for a while and thought I would finally just introduce myself! I have mille fleur/calico cochins, splash cochins and just got two black cockerels to add to my splash with the intention of making blue to cross back to improve color and type in my splash. I am hoping for some blue mottled as both boys are split. And then, maybe, I could breed a couple typey mottled to the mille fleurs to get a split to breed back in type to the mille/calicos.

I have a pair of mille fleur birds from Lynne (who I really hope sees this since these kiddos were just 5 months old when she shipped them to me) and a pair of calicos. I am planning on getting some breeding pens built this spring to start hatching some babies.

Sarge aka "the boss" (he keeps all the other cochin cockerels in line at all times)

Hi Ladies, can anyone tell me if Rocky is a calico. He doesn't have a lot of white, that's why I'm asking. We just got his first chicks hatching this morning and boy are they cuties.

I recently hatched some eggs under a broody. Only one chick hatched out of my mutt roo X mutt hen. It appears to be calico which isn't a surprise since seller was breeding calicos. Roo and hen are not calico. I initially thought hen was part MF d'uccle because of her shape, muff/beard but seller sold them as EE/Cochin mixes. Regardless of what created my birds, they produced a calico patterned poof that I'm hoping my husband allows me to keep. I'd love to try for more calicos. Do I breed calico back to mom or do I repeat the cross between mom & dad and hope for more calico pullets to breed to this chick?

I bought 2 bantam mutts a few years ago...a little red pullet and a blue/gold cockerel that was supposed to be a pullet. We hatched an egg out of both as well as some other hens. This combo created a calico roo so I realized both were carriers for mottling. Last year, we hatched out a chick between the little red hen and a blue LF boy with melanistic skin. The result was a bantam (LF boy was part silkie on his mom's side) hen that is black with gold birchen markings. She has black skin. She was in the run with the calico boy. She hid a clutch of eggs and hatched 8 babies. We don't know who the moms of all the eggs are but based on location of nest and egg shape/color, in theory....they should all be hers. Never assume anything with chickens, though. There are certainly a lot of lighter chicks than I expected. The other possibilities would be a little MF d'uccle, a lemon blue bantam that should only be a carrier for mottled but has more mottling each year, or another black/gold bantam that is mostlikely a carrier herself. Suspected mom and broody of this hatch shows no sign of being a carrier of mottling. These are the chicks. I believe the 2 black ones with white face patch might be mottled despite not looking like a mottled chick (I've been told in the past that my hunches were wrong with chicks only to find I was right). But based on the motley mess of color that these are, does anyone see anything that would indicate I might have any calicos? That's my eventual goal...to create beautiful calicos from a motley mess. Of course, this clutch wasn't planned. I found another hidden clutch under the mottled lemon blue (same calico dad) that I pulled and gave to a friend to hatch. Pretty sure she'll get more of the color I want....though I think these might be closer to the shape I want. Anyway, no one ever groans at another chick pic so here they are 🥰
