I'm looking for some better understanding.
what EXACTLY is the difference between the three?
not just the genetics - but what colors/patterns go with each?
I'm seeing ads for all three (projects) but honestly... many look the same.

this is a proper research article on the mottling gene which will answer your questions, in a journal made freely available (not behind a paywall); enjoy

welcome to BYC btw :frow

Did you ever find a SIMPLE answer to this question?? I don’t really care about the differences GENETICALLY lol, I’m just trying to figure out which one I have! 😝

Calico in Silkies is Splash Partridge.

Calico in Cochins is Mille Fleur/Mottled.

Regular mottling in cochins is usually black mottled.

Thank you!! I currently have a variety of cochin colors. I have one very red calico roo, one buff calico hen, a pretty splash (blue) roo, and a paint satin hen! I also have a mille d'uccle hen and a blue partridge firzzle roo! I have 24 blue calico hatching eggs on their way! I was wondering how I could go about getting more white into my calico offspring?

Are you going for calico based on mottling, or splash?
