Just to let you all know. I got my babies! Sort of bitter sweet, i dont know Whats up but almost half have died within the last 48 hours. I dont know why.

They were almost all lethargic when i got them, put them in the brooder, heat lamp on. Temps as 95, made sure to dip eachs ones beak in the water until they did the chewing motion. They have paper towels on the bottom so they can see the chick starter. Im checking butts twice a day, almost everyone had pasty butt so cleaned up and made sure to put vaseline on. The super lethargic ones got a little bit of sugar water.

i make sure everything is clean and dry. a few i think have been lost because of piling, some seem like they get rolled on their backs and cant roll back? Is that normal? How can i correct that?

Also, the two wing photos are the same bird. Im still not great at sexing so what sex does it look like to you all more experienced people?

We have a young flock that we started this spring, four Isa Brown hens for fresh eggs and twelve Rouen/Pekin mixed ducks. They are lots of work and are very fun and entertaining at the same time. LOL

Having ducks is noting like caring for chickens, do your homework so you know what you are getting yourself into! LOL Our ducks are pets and have started laying eggs awhile back.

Some of the chicks in this picture appear to be wet. If they get wet, you need to dry them immediately as a chilled chick, especially one not recovered from shipping stress, can die.

How large is your brooder?
Is there a cooler side to the brooder?
How large is it and how many chicks are in it?
