California has a swine flue outbreak! How do I protect my birds

I am concerned because I live in Humboldt County ( far north of CA), and my mom lives in Riverside ( far south and away from San Diego), she was going tomorrow to look at a Trio of Golden Cukcoo Marans... Should she not? I can't seem to find any answers in the CDC or CA dept of health. I don't have any other birds and she would have them for two weeks before she brought them up???

The Problem with the strain is that it can mutate quickly I hope it doesn't turn ..big.

I wouldn't even think about bringing any new birds into my flock at this point. I think your mom should not go to see birds with the intent to purchase.

I think until this thing all blows over we would all be best to just lay low and use universal precautions when handling our livestock.

And it is spreading. The news reported 2 cases in Kansas on tonight's broadcast. And possible cases reported in NY. That's a pretty big geographical jump. But it probably has something to do with people who have traveled recently to Mexico. In any case, it is bound to spread before it dies out...and hopefully some warmer, drier weather will take care of things.

As for me, I'll be more diligent about using my hand sanitizer. We keep them in our cars, purses, and places of work.

monkey spinner i am in riverside as well. i got a pair of show quality silkies a weekk before i saw the breaking news clip.

I will probably get in trouble for this but then I have never been able to keep quiet. When I see things like this show up in the news…..I ask myself…..SELF? WHAT ELSE is happening in the world that THEY do not want us to see or pay attention to? There is quite a bit actually.

Especially the CREDIT GAME, and how the banks are playing fast a loose with OUR hard earned money.

Now…. I will leave it up to you what you think is important or not. As for me ...well life can be as fragile as you make it. I believe in being, prepared and well informed. Read, read, and read.

Only trust that which came true in the past. Use these as your sources for information and do not let the blabber or the blame game coming from those yelling the loudest be deemed as the truth.

As for sitting with a brown paper bag over my head waiting for the end of the world, I don’t think so! And…AND…I say this with much conviction, I do not want our boarders closed or others blamed for anything. It accomplishes nothing but confusion, wasted time and can cause the possible loss of life.

We already have a failing healthcare system in this country. When are we going get all concerned and get our hackles up over this? How can we expect to overcome any possible plague when NO one cares about the day to day health issues that already “plaguing” this country?

If we do not extend our help and healthcare to ALL , then I feel we will have many plagues on our hands. It starts with the first step, because it is too late if you are seeing it from the top of the stairs. When do we take a stand to make healthcare universal for all?

When I said those yelling the loudest....I did NOT mean those on this forum. They are very well informed...I am talking about radio and TV. The weakest link in the American day is our daily news.
