Wow, I can't keep up with you guys! I am lucky if I get the time to offer a little advice and post chick pictures. So much action going on in this thread  All 23 of my eggs hatched in this last hatch :D I did have to help the last chick out. Both feet were terribly curled and her left leg was rigid and stretched out behind her so she couldn't walk :( I couldn't put her down on Easter so I bent the leg and taped it up and then against her body like they do at the vets when an animal has a dislocated hip. I really didn't expect it to work, but the next day I took the tape off and the leg was back in place! :yesss: Her toes were still completely turned under, but she could get around by crawling along. Once again I thought I was going to have to put her down, but this morning when I checked on her, her toes are uncurling!! :woot I am so glad I didn't give up on her :celebrate Here are some pictures I took of chicks in this hatch. The two lighter ones are pure W/BW Ameraucanas. I have 7 more EE chicks available ;) 6 of these chicks went to liz9910 on Saturday :D
What a pretty hatch Chickee. I'm lovin' the muffs on the almost white wheaten AM's. You have the prettiest EE's too. Here's hoping your little one with curled toes continues to improve :fl :fl :fl And that you get over the Easter flu. :sick :yiipchick :jumpy Liz, you enjoy those little ones

This picture is awesome :) love it!

I have one little WCB Polish chicks that was the last to hatch and is SOOO tiny. She was pretty run over with 17 chicks in there but hung in. All sold except the 3 I'm keeping so it's much calmer in there but she's still not growing much and is still not stable. Nothing notable except she's still acting like a just hatched chick trying to get their stability. I decided to give her Poly Vi Sol and while searching for dosage I couldn't really find specific dosage for a small week old but I did see some say that they remove medicated feed because it blocks uptake of something or other and the vitamins won't absorb?????

First, how many drops on the beak of the Poly Vi Sol, no iron, for a chick the size of a small pullet egg. Second, do I have to remove the medicated? Obviously, she's not eating much of it.

Hope everyone had a great Easter, we sure did! Once I get this chick some vitamins and feed the animals, I'll get a shot of my new FCBM rooster I bought from debs_flock on Saturday and read the 100's of posts I've missed!

I am so sorry!

Just a drop twice a day of the Baby vitamin with no iron. Medicated feed has been improved and should not hurt them now--that said I do not use it. I use King Feed Natural non Soy non Corn Starter Crumbles. It is priced at $22.42 for 50#s. Some are having trouble with Bresse needing extra protein and feather picking. Mine are doing just fine and I have 11 of them in a brooder at 1 month old. If they show symptoms of Cocci I give them corid water.

At 1 week old, I start them on Big Ole Bird from Southland Organics. The HRIRs will start on it today. They get it for two days every two weeks and it makes a big difference.

Here is an older post that talks about how to treat vent gleet and e coli.

I am currently culturing my own lactobacillus bacteria via the Korean natural farming method talked about on this link:

My culture should be ready to use on Friday. There are all kinds of ways to use LAB including using it to start fermenting feed.
I "cured" Vent Gleet on my Dorking EE! No more blood covered eggs!

I used monistat 7 both the suppositories and the cream. Poor Hen looks so much happier and the fluffy Butt look is coming back!

I am going to look up the culture you are making!

Do you use their Litter Life? LAB culture diluted in water can be sprayed on poultry litter to reduce the ammonia and bad bacteria. It is also used to spray on compost, gardens, etc. I wonder if Southland Organics has LAB cultures in their products? Litter LIfe is a microbial culture but I don't see where they say which bacteria is in it. It also has reactive lignins in it that fuction as macromolecular sponges and also suppress bacteria growth.
