Do any of you with Genesis incubators have the thermometer hygrometer with the sensor probe that goes through the incubator vent hole? I am thinking about ordering a thermometer hygrometer to use with my new incubator and I am wondering if this is the way to go.
There is a cut out in one corner of the bottom and top for wires. I use it for the Brinsea spot check. The power cable for the egg turner goes down it too.

Toss the plug and run with the vent open. There is only one on the Genesis. The top has a fairly accurate humidity sensor in it but the thermometer setting is way off for the temp at the egg level. You could use the spot check for temps and the top humidity sensor for moisture. I have a Thermometer hygrometer combo the sits in the incubator. It is from the Incubator warehouse.

It takes a bit of fiddling to get the temp correct. I have to set mine to 101.8 or so to get the temp to 99.5 at the egg level. Mine seems to be sensitive to the humidity level. I have to raise the temperature to keep it at 99.5 with higher humidity. Mine was one of the first ones with the new controls so I would hope yours, being a year newer will not have that problem. This is the curse of an early adopter of technology....

Not the typical chicken crow, but they do crow................and they're quite loud. Mine live in the workshop and you can hear them if you are anywhere near the garage. In fact, when you drive up into my driveway, they are the first thing you hear while still in your car. They are called the apartment poultry, but I think they'd kill your ears.

I think they'd be good if you connect with a restaurant. For some odd reason I'm attracted to the egg for hard boiling or making little deviled eggs. I guess I get the gourmet food part but I too wondered what you "do" with them!

This is such a great thread, everyone is so nice and helpful and I love the great sense of humors here too.

I make deviled quail eggs for parties, they are quite the hit, bite sized and all (although DH thinks chicken eggs are, LOL). I also like to boil them and throw them whole into salads, perfect!

Looking to buy or have built a custom coop for silkies any one know. any who makes or sells coops

Try a craigslist search. There are a lot of custom coop builders in the North Bay so hopefully you will find someone close to you.

I had the quail question too...I actually thought they might be raising them for hunting :)

A question: Since I am setting shipped eggs should I plan on putting them in an egg carton in the incubator? Should I plan on doing the same with the non-shipped eggs in the hatch?

Quote: Shipped eggs should be incubated big end up. For hatching at lockdown, put them on their side with the big end slightly up. Check my Siggy for a link to more information.

I still use cartons at hatch and tilt the eggs:

Set them with the big part of the air cell up. All but 3 of these hatched. Amy Beth has them now.

This is the one that I am thinking about buying from incubator warehouse. If you look at the pics, you can see how it is inserted through the vent hole. What do you think?

I was just looking at that one and it looked great, but when I read the very poor reviews about how it isn't accurate I was really disappointed
