Well........I think all the chicks that are going to hatch have done so. I still have the 4 Marans eggs, 3 Mottled AM and 2 OE in there. I candled them and they all look like they developed pretty far and then stopped for some reason. Some I can even see where the look like they filled the egg and pushed up a bit on the aircell, but none have internally pipped and none are moving or making any sound. I will leave them a couple of days more and remove them just to be sure, but I think my final count will be 12 of 33 eggs. Not a very good rate but all were shipped eggs. Now that I have the Brinsea hopefully the rate will go up in the next clutch. I have some from a friends hens in there now on day 8.

The Delaware hatch that I finished yesterday had 4 groups of chicks in baskets. I had to get them out because they hatched so well that they were very cramped in the baskets. Those Dels are big too.

Each time I opened the incubator, I sprayed a mist from a spray bottle. I had no shrink wrapped chicks.

It would be perfectly fine to mist them and remove the 18 hour old chicks. You can also fill the water tanks at the same time.

I am looking forward to more pictures!

given how quickly the RCom temps & humidity recover after the lid's been opened, is this really an issue? i keep imagining baby chicks hatching under a mama hen, they're not going to have perfectly consistent temp/humidity either... i wouldn't leave the lid off for ages, but a quick open to scoop babies out shouldn't cause huge trouble?
I took the 4 out. The water is filled from the outside on the Rcom's the humidity was back at normal in seconds. I still prefer not to open it though when theres pipping

I hope so too!

I have three full incubators again.--and one stacked egg. I should be able to pull some clears again next week and next weekend I have a very big hatch of UofA blues and OEs(Crele Penedesenca pullets X an UofA Blue cockerel). I can't wait to see them.

Save some for me Ron. Pretty please, with sugar on top.

Hi everyone! It's been too long. How's it going?

Our flock is doing well. Had to get a couple saddles for the popular girls. Ellie the EE hasn't laid yet even though she's gonna be a year old this month. Not sure what's going on with her. Looks healthy.

This morning the Hubby found an egg in one of the nest boxes that had a hole in it with the contents all over the nest pad. We've never had an egg eating problem, so I don't know what to make of it.

Normal Hen behavior is to test the egg for hatching viability by pecking it. If the egg is not viable and she pecks a hole in the egg they will eat it.

It is not an egg eating thing it is a pro creation and weak egg shell thing. It is common to find this when they start laying again in the Spring. Calcium and vitamins helps as well as making sure they do not have parasites.
