I found 2 what I believe to be Californa quail eggs in the middle of my lawn, waited to see if mom would come back for them but she did not so I decided to try and hatch them. I've been incubating them for 11 days now and have the right temps, they are both alive and seem to be growing each day, hatch date is coming up soon and I'm preparing a brooder to put them in but I am worried about what to feed them when they hatch, I've read that they need 20% protein game feed. Will they eat that right away or do I need to syringe feed them with something?? Also how long do they need to stay in the brooder for? I have found lots of information about different kinds of quail but not a lot on California quail, is their care similar?? Any tips would be much appreciated thank you!

I don't have much experience with California quail, but they are probably similar to other types. They will eat the game feed, don't use a syringe for anything. As far as keeping them in the brooder, get an estimate from what other quail species receive and just wait and see. Once they have all or most of their feathers they won't need it anymore.

Okay thank you so much!
