Yes, they do, its the funniest thing. They use it extensively to go up and down. Even when going down and they could easily hop/fly off the side they still make sure to use each and every rung. Very amusing with their little football bodies.
 
How big are they supposed to be ?? I have some that are about 5 and a half months and they have adult plumage, well most of it; But I think they are too small. Including their top knot, that are just about the size of a chick waterer ( the commom one with the red bottom). How big are they supposed to be in inches ??

You have great looking birds! Just out of curiosity...could at least one of your males be a Gambel's instead of Californian? They are cousins to each other...my Californians have basically blue head, still with the black markings and top knot where as my Gambel's have the red/orange head with top knot.

Either way...I love quail and your are cool!! Like your housing too!!
 
has any one got there quails to go broody and i also am looking for some california quails if anyone could tell me a good place to get them i live in california
