I try to be practical in most adventures also but shucks just WHO can do that all of the time. I have gone just slightly awry about the chickens in that I am exploring with varieties for now. I think I can settle for just a few breeds. Blue eggs layers i.e. Easter Eggers and Olive eggers. For that you need a few birds with the blue egg gene and a few Welsummers or Marans. I prefer Welsummers because they do not have feathered feet. I have two Wellie pullets and I enjoy their chatty personalities and I love their coloring. Then I discovered Brabanters. I wanted a white eggs layer and thought that the Brabanter looked interesting so I ordered 10 pullets for Ideal and guess what I have have left. One little pullet whose name is BABY and two handsome cockerels. I did try Andalusians first but the males were too agressive. And then there was the poultry show where I found my Showgirls. They are very sweet and calm birds. I love calm birds the most. Now I need some Turkens and initially I thought that I could stop acquiring chickens after the Turkens but Oh No. I do not have enough birds with blue eggs gene. So it goes on and on. Having chickens is not really always practical if you can not limit the adventure and so many of us can not. It is too much fun to explore the different breeds and mixes.

I am thinking that the Brown Leghorns are good layers. What is their temperament ? I am curious about them, white eggs right ?

They're good layers of white eggs. Not my favorite breed. A little flighty. They don't bother the others so easy keepers. They can be a little noisy but that doesn't bother me. I was letting my birds free range but with all the dogs I have and one attack a few days ago on my favorite hen I decided to not go that route. I'd like to give a little more space to the others.

Edited to add: However.....I could make room for some showgirls if you wanted a trade??

Well Showgirls are just for pets/eyecandy ! Any eggs will be used for trading etc. Besides I know that you are just joking ! I was just interested to hear your opinion on the Brown L personality since I had hear that they are not as high strung/flight as the white variety. I'll stick with my Brabanters for the white eggs for now. They are not so bad and are very pretty looking.
