Hi chicken people! I live in Alta Loma, which is really part of Rancho Cucamonga but we can have horses and stuff! Like chickens! I had 2 banty hens that had to go because they were too darn noisy, they thought they were roosters I think, started hollering and squawking earlier and earlier every week. Finally it was happening at 4 am and it was back to the ranch for them! I'm looking at getting EE's, I've heard they are quiet and nice to kids (and Moms). I really got a kick out of those banties, they thought they were so tough they way they would strut through the yard...I'm very happy to have more chickens in my future!

Hi So Cal chicken people. I've heard from several of you recently replying to my post -- thanks. I just started my first batch in the incubator tonight. I'm using eggs from Ham and Eggs Ranch in Norco. We drove out there Monday -- I hadn't ever been there and I thought it was really pretty there with mountains all around and seeming so rustic. I wish I could have roosters where I live.

I'm bummed about making my eggs wait 3 days to get set, but I was waiting for these eggs I ordered from Georgia which never arrived! So much for priority mail. I have my fingers crossed for this hatch -- there are some GLW's, buff brahmas, EE's, 3 serama eggs, and one white silkie which I really want.

I checked with my local Trader Joe's for fresh fertile eggs, thanks to a tip by another SoCal BYCer, but the ones they had were way old. The staff people there were intrigued, though, by the idea of incubating their eggs, and I'm hoping they'll call me if a fresh batch comes in.

Bye for now!

OCChickens;
I missed your first post about hatching...
I have fertile Easter Eggers (Americana) if you wanted to hatch those. I am in Altadena, above Pasadena by 3 miles.
Good luck with the eggs!

Hi Gail -- Thanks for the info on the Easter Eggers. I'll keep that in mind for the future!! Yes, I've been to Altadena. It's nice there. I lived in Pasadena when I first moved to CA 20 y ago & still have fond memories.

Hi So Cal friends -- Wanted to let you know about my new silkies I just picked up this morning. I had been wanting to get some for a while. The one silkie egg I had in the bator was infertile - I broke it out already. I happened to stop by Foothill Feed in Orange (on Chapman) this morning and they had all these grey silkies in the back.

I took the 3 bigger ones, but they prob had at least a dozen that were 1-2 weeks old. So cute! Here's a picture of them enjoying scratching around the backyard!

I'm new and still building my coop. I'd like to get some "older than chicks" Easter eggers, and barred rock hens around early July. If anyone knows anyone who has some or where I can get some.
We just don't have the time (not home in the day) to raise them from chicks...

Love to hear the tips from the locals! we are in Lakewood, CA

Nice to hear from another local chicken person.

I have some 1-2 month old chicks, not sure yet what's a boy or girl, but you could check back with me. No barred rocks, though.

Good luck!

Hi, I have a dozen of what you are looking for, ages six months to about nine months old. Some are gold based, crossed on Golden Laced Wyandotte, some are blue based, most lay a very nice blue egg. A couple of them lay greenish. PM sent.
