Totally! My friend brought her kids (ages 4 and 3) to come see the chicks 1 week after we got them. They came back 2 weeks later and the kids couldn't understand how fast they grew. Fast forward to 3 weeks ago, when my chicks were about 3 months old, my friends son (the 3 year old) played with them, but then asked me where my "other chickens" were, "the baby ones." He could not comprehend how fast they had grown and still expected to see little fuzzy babies. "Why they grow?"

On another related cute kid note, I told him I might get a couple more chickens and then he asked, "you fire these chickens? They get fired?"

Awww! Love the chilluns.

Yeah! I explained that one day he'd grow to be as big as his dad. He looked at me funny. You have to read what he said with a 3-years old's speech "where dee udder chickens?...the widdle baby ones?" and :(why they gwow?" and "you fwire deese chickens? They go FWWired!?" :D

Dans feed in perris has chicks that are sexed so far all the ones i bought from them has been pullets.. the price is $2.95per chick its a drive but you will find what u are looking for.. they stock every Thursday might want to call them to see what breeds they have... worth the drive...

Wes's Pets & Feed in El Monte gets his chicks already sexed from a hatchery but on the off-chance one turns out to be cockerel he refunds the price. It's not the $$$ to me but trying to find a home for an unwanted male that I don't like to deal with. We can't eat them because DH won't eat our flock LOL.

Certain breeds like BRs and Doms are sexable at day-old by sight alone and are the only breeds I trust to know if they are male/female as chicks but usually all other breeds I wait until they are juveniles and easily identified before I purchase - anywhere from two to four months old.

I think like you said, everyone is running their breeding business in addition to other life stuff & prone to error. I think everyone should get to inspect their birds & decide if they are right for them. I breed rats & I always give people the chance to handle them, check them out, even return them if it isn't working out. I think that's a breeder's responsibility if you bring animals into the world. Now in saying that, if someone sells chicks as straight run then of course they don't have to take them back because they turn out to be roos & all potential chicken owners should be made aware that sometimes chicks die even if the breeder & new owner did everything right. But if you said you wanted a certain color & that color isn't available after they said it was, you should have the option to say no thank you so you can get what you really wanted. It is all in the pre-sale wording & being careful next time might mean some clarifications on both sides as to expectations. We all learn by experience on what we would do different next time in the same situation. I'm sure you will love these birds anyways, silkies are so cool :)

AMEN!

Hope you find the homes you are looking for; sorry I can't offer one.  The mixed silkie pic is very cute.
He's. Awsome is he stll available? ??

Yes he is, He will end up being quite a looker. I haven't heard back yet from the breeder as to what he is a cross with. Does anyone know if silkies are as crow-y & loud as other roos?

Silkies are more like a honk, not as annoying but can be as loud
Any other funny chicken noises to note?

For example, I let some broody hens out of the baby coop when it was nice and shady one afternoon, and they found some really soft dirt to roll around in. One hen was so happy she was growling like a dog.
