I had a fun hour of what i started out to put frontline on my chickens along with clip nails, clip a side of wings, and the very fun part. Cut off dried up poopy butt feathers. After my 7th poopy butt i came to realize my scissors were dull now, i was NUTS in the first place for doing this in the dark sure they didnt run away hkwever i was bent over in front of a lamp cliping feathers. And my nail clippers werent good enough to clip nails (couple of my birds dont scratch aparently) oh and the best. Had iur friend cut lower tree branches so the 15 that roost in the tree would be reachable...ya...7 still figured out how to get up in the tree only way higher now. Tommorrow or rather later today as its midnight now. Im investing in a net and better scissors and nail clippers. However most birds got the frontline. The tree is a mulberry tree. So they are up pretty high. You can see the eye ball of the 7th one thats hidding. Its under the white chicken. This is the mulberry tree before we trimed the left side. The lower branches were cut off.

check out Walmart for the nets. I got a landing net for about twelve bucks it has an extendable handle. See if you can get most of them into the cage area at feed time. Just shut the door on them. Then worry about catching them later.

Its in your best intrest to condition them to roost in a safe enclosure at night. Some people use a bell and feed something they really like. Or in the case of my Guineas I woould holler Treat Treat TReat and then feed them some millet or scratch..... They woul come flying up over the house to get to the back yard.

I cant run I can barely walk I use a long pvc pole to extend my arm.... about four feet long. it helps guide the chickens toward where you want them. Not perfectly but You can get most of em going into en enclosure. once inside you can use the net to catch and then do your work. Id setup a workstation with all your stuff.... scissors, clippers frontline.... I need a chair to sit on so I just use my walker... I d mark a leg shank with blue coat so you know which one was done if you have a lot of chickens.

Good luck

Oh ya i have about 40 plus chickens. The half assembled plastic shed is theres. Once its done it will be pushed back and we will redo the pen vs the way it is now were making it up and down vs long ways. Ive used the extending thing before. There pretty good about roosting where i want. However when we first got chicks we made the mistake of buying the chicka before the coop. Our first coop looked big enough. Ya for when they were babies lol. So we pulled out our dog crates and they slept in there id lock them up every night. Then i didnt lock them up and they resorted to sleeping on top of the dog crates.. we bought the shed a year ago on black friday. Tried putting it up. Wouldnt go together and then i sliced my finger open with a box cutter que e.r. had it super glued with skin glue shut. And so it sat lol. We have had our chickens 3 years. When it rains and is cold the cages are covered with tarps. I worry about the girls more than they worry.

Besides the ones in the tree this is where the others roost. I have managed to get the 5 younger ones (just let them out of the chick pen to go with the adults) ive managed to get them to sleep in an old dog igloo vs smushed in the itty bitty chicken carryer. And then im the chick pen i still have like 7 who are still too small for my liking to be with the adults.

its going to be awesome when you get it finished. When I was living at home I made sure to do one construction project per day.... for my cages.... Because really what it is that I have are BIG cages. Tarp roof Dog kennels that are six by twelve and modular so I can configure them any way I like. Matter of fact mY next iteration will be a 24 x 24 foot structure made of kennel panels... thats how many of these panels I have.

In my existing setup I had two twelve by six partitions and one twelve by ten.... Odd bit of corral panel used as a wall. In the Wellie pen I had about 18 LF Wellsummers.... they got along famously. Not perfect but they were all hatch mates.

the other pen had four roos and four hens.... 2 silkey, 3wellie 1 barred rock, 2auracana

then the last had about 12 guinea fowl

so there was about forty in all.

I haven't had any now for about four years. Long story Cascade failure....

I hope to have space for em all and more with the poultry house I want to build...

But I digress. chickens have the habit of teaching us stuff... about our selves and about priorities....

I want to also do a few small pens. That i can move around. So i can try my hand at breeding and using my incubator i bought. I have some egyptian type rooster and one of those crested cream legbars. Im gonna mix and match more for my own use and maybe my friend whos trying her hand at backyard chickens. Down the line i MIGHT but idk try doing pure breds. Roos arent allowed in west covina where im at but *knock on wood* animal control nor the city has said anythung. And if animal control shows up im gonna telk them get a warrient and to f off. There gonna bug me about a rooster when my neighbors dog barks all hours of the night for over 30 mins at a time and they abuse there dogs. At least my animals are well taken care of and my rooster shuts up. I called them over two years ago about my neighbors inhuman keeping of there mastiff and how when he is out he jumps on the property fence between us and shakes the hole thing and one day did break a board which the neighbors told me "dont go in your backyard then" yeah im not you i dont get animals for lawn ordiments. Im not hurting anyone. My neighbir i do get along with two doors down dudnt even know i had chickens. And i have no one behind us. And the neighbor -> that side is old and keeps to himaelf.

Hi all. I am looking for a Polish and would love any suggestions regarding where to look. Thanks in advance!

Are you near San Diego county? On June 29, there will be white crested black, silver laced, gold laced and buff laced polish available at Fallbrook Feed and Fertilizer. They source their chicks from Cackle Hatchery. Easy if you're local and don't mind hatchery quality. Maybe someone on this thread knows a breeder?
