How did the gathering of all you chicken lovers in San Diego turn out? Just wanted to hear about all the fun you must have had

We had a great time. We spent about 5 hours just chatting about chickens and life in general, everyone brought lots of goodies to share and I think we all went home with something ie. birds, plants, eggs, food, novelty chicken items etc.
It was a nice warm day and really fun meeting a group with the same interests. We will be doing it again soon. Hope you can make the next one and join the fun.

Hi everyone in So Cal! I have two young silkie cockerels for free but would like to give them to someone who will appreciate them.... I have a gorgeous splash that is not quite 5 mos yet. Hasn't started to crow and is from Indigo Egg in FL.
I also have a young dark blue from Cat Dance silkies.
Let me know if you need one!

Dear Sweet Violet, For those of us who raise chickens having too many rooster is difficult. In fact for those who order straight run chickens and are not even allowed to raise chickens having rooster is a big issue. Your bird, the splash silkies, are very pretty and I am sure many of us would volunteer to keep them if we could. Once I had two very sweet white silkie roosters that I could not keep. I found some one who took them and later found out that he sold each of them for twenty dollars each as pets for some ones kids. LUCKY was I but it was not an easy event since I needed to transport the buggers 500 miles. I just wanted to tell you of one experience regarding roosters.

I would be very cautious about the FREE part. I would think for sure it would end up in a stock pot. YES! It is true. Asians consider the Black Chicken as a delicacy. It is suppose to make a very "special" soup. I have to admit that I have had it in a very famous restaurant in Asia and it was delicious. A long time ago when I was "into" raising chickens, I had met a silkie bantam farmer that sold his birds to the asian markets and poultry shops in Chinatown. He had a farm going to Laughlin I believe. I had purchased eggs from him and hatched them in the incubator. I think he sold the farm and retired but a new person has purchased it and I see him at the farmer's markets, selling silkies.

Sweet Violet: Your beautiful boy needs to find a home w/ a bunch of girlfriends. I am praying that you find the right people. Not trying to scare you, but just be aware.

thanks all! I did find one man on CL that will pay $20 for him. I've also contacted Namaste Farms in Temecula who does a lot of 4H work and asked her if she has any leads....
