I would be glad to help or discuss this with you, next week, after the Expo is over and I have some time.

Kim in Yolo County

wolftracks, I hope you find the place that you are looking for. A couple of my Am's are flighty but one of them is a total sweetheart and loves to get on my SO's shoulder or lap. Hope everyone has a good Sunday. The storm last night was great and much needed. I'm just sorry it didn't last longer.

I can't believe you got some sprinkles! We've just had the clouds, dry lightening (fire danger like back in our fires of '08), I'd give anything to see some moisture in our clouds. It's cooler today and getting cloudy, maybe we're getting your storm!

Yes Wilton is just south of Elk Gove. I LOVE it out here! It feels really rural, yet it is only a 10-15 minute drive to Elk Grove which is a really devoloped area. Life is good and simple and I can pretty much have whatever animals I want because the area is so zoned for agriculture.

Its in Sacramento County, between Elk Grove and Galt, off the 99. (If you have any idea where that is) Its not too far from Sacramento itself.

I'll have to have my daughter see what's on her mls.

My problem though is I can't drive at night and with the fog, I want to be closer to Dixon, without have to drive through either on 12. I figured Dixon would be cheap. LMAO!!!!!! Yeah right.

I do want to be close to a town, but just far enough where I can have animals. Somewhere close to Travis AFB would be great. Then I could be close to shop too.

This new roo is really sweet, but I just picked him up tuesday????? I think. Yesterday was his first time loose in the yard and when I let him try out his new digs to see what else I should do for him, he just got a little freaked out. Otherwise I can carry him around. The other AM roos wanted to chase him down, so I was armed with a water hose yesterday and today they left him alone. He stayed right next to me while I was working, but there was no cover yet for him, just a smallish run for now. I thought we'd get more than a sprinkle so I wanted him somewhere dry.

Speaking of sprinkle. I went to pick up feed and my car was so dusty (washed it yesterday) that the little sprinkles made splotches all over the place. I could barely see through the windshield. Makayla and I picked up the feed and went to wash the car. I either don't go often on a sunday, or from the looks of most, the same thing had happened. I was like 30+ cars back. Good thing it's quick there. Got home and told Dakotah to grab the feed from my backseat (the dad/owner was there and he had just bought roos from my Marans x Game crossed from someone who had bough chicks from me, so we were talking) so the son put the bag in the back seat. Usually I have the trunk open for him. Anyway Dakotah's friend ran out the door and said he was getting the feed. I walked back out with 3 pullets to go show at the feedstore and the bag was on my trunk

and feed had leaked out on it. The feed didn't upset me so bad, but I can see where he slide the bag across the trunk. So the car was dirty again and I didn't yell although it was hard, but he was trying to help. Just let him know, that I don't even lean in that car, so I don't damage the paint. I'd rather vacuum it out than have to repaint, which is also least likely to ever happen. Luckily no dents or dings that I noticed, but I was trying not to inspect to closely and make him feel bad.

So I had cat problems again a while ago. I was out and some of my 3-5 month olds were out free ranging. Cat grabbed my 4 or so month old pullet by the neck. He only got feathers, but could have been worse.

I put 14 eggs under my broody Game hen today. All she has this time is SPPRs and FBCMs so here's hoping I get at least a couple of chicks.

How big is your game hen? I didnt think that that many eggs could fit. My Marans pullet has a huge fluffy butt. If she were to go broody she could fit 20 eggs under there lol.

She's not huge, but she's got every one of them under her. She has stolen a nest before and can keep a ton under her. She's so fluffed up and flattened that ever single one is covered. She's a great mom too, so I'm kind of glad she's broody although I'd like a couple of more chicks from her too.

My FBCM has been sitting, but she had had eggs show when there was only 7 or 8. I even tucked one of the last 3 under her, because she hadn't tucked it under her. She's trying, but she's never set a nest before since I always broke her. If they don't hatch in the next couple of days, maybe I'll have something hatched that I can sit under her.

Still, I haven't had a single Silkie go broody and I've had 4 Games hatch out chicks this summer. That's one of the reason I've done my Marans x Games. They should lay like crazy and go broody too. They sure are pretty. I love the chicks from this mix and I've kept 8 I think. Might be more, but I can't always count the ones from the broodies. They don't coop at night and they hide and move to fast. LOL

BigDaddysMom we had rain most of the day here north of Reno. Nice to have some rain wth the lightening for a change. Not so worried about fires then.

ChicksterJo all I can say is that folks must be ignorant! No hen has ever kept me up all night with her barking! or with a loud motorcycle...

Ok, it's late and I must be tired cause now I'm picturing a hen on a dirtbike and I'm grinning like a fool!

TGreenhut I've been out to Galt so I must've passed right through Wilton. Course back then Elk Grove was just a bump in the road! Can't believe how huge it is now by comparison.
Anyway, it sounds lovely! We just moved out to the boonies and I am loving it! Well we'll see how much I love it after I have to deal with twice as much snow as I'm used to.

Kim sounds like life is as hectic as always.
