Yes, but these eggs were supposed to be from my buff hens and wheaten rooster only. The lavenders egg got mixed in by accident. I was surprised to see on the Genetica chicken color calculator that lavender bred to almost any color but lavender produces black!

Okay then, mabe that's it. Mine are not laying yet but I am expecting all green eggs when they come.
Did I tell you I have been procesing now for awhile? My cuts need work when I am cleaning them out but have been happy with the results. How often do you change your blade?

I've seen your posts, and I'm glad that I could help.

I don't change the blade that often if I keep it off the cutting board. I did ten birds a week or two ago, and all on one blade. When we do a deer or a bear, my husband will touch the blades up with a steel, and we keep right on going, but that's a lot more cutting. I don't like to touch them up myself, so if I'm skinning something big alone, I'll use two or three blades. I buy them by the hundred, so it's not a huge deal to change one.

My ameraucanas and EEs always hatched a day early and the marans were always a day or two later than them. Not sure if everyone else has had the same experience but that's what happened in every one of my hatches.

All these hatches have got me all excited!!! I need to get the bator out and ready to go for spring babies.

Congrats everyone!!!

I believe it not to be unusual for Marans eggs to take longer to hatch. I had one go 4 days late & discovered it only when I was taking the eggs out of the incubator to do my eggtopsies before throwing them out. It had pipped on the back side of the egg where I didn't see it & was still alive & lived just fine. I think someone on this board had one go 7 days late..........unbelievable

I love the knife you recommended & got one for my son too. I need to process a couple of dozen myself but can't seem to get to it in the Christmas rush & need to rearrange my freezer space too before I do that. I have kept the feathers on the interesting ones & made earrings for my 17 year old grand daughter out of some. I hope she likes them. I am eager to try more. I wash them all in a Palmolive soap bath & rinse & drain on paper towels then fluff each feather out as I use it. It is amazing how the feather changes when you hand work it.
I am soooooooooo late with my Christmas crafts this year & just finished all my egg ornaments for the year. I have used up all my duck eggs & most of my goose eggs so have made arrangements with the lady I sold my ducks to to get eggs from her next spring. Last year I couldn't figure out what to do with the dark Marans eggs but this year I made them into Gingerbread man faces...............LOL. I prefer to use the egg their natural color so the Delawares & Light Sussex are flesh for the Raggedy Anns & Andy too. All the white ones are assorted snowmen.
Well I am off to my bead room upstairs to make another set of feather earrings for my son's girlfriend. Never a dull moment.....I LOVE it............LOL

Thanks!

I now have 5 out of 8 Easter Eggers out. A sixth is working on it, so should be out soon.

Today is day 21(started at 7:00 last night) and one of the Marans has a finger nail size hole in the shell

The other two don't have any pips, but I am hopeful.

I will post pictures soon. My EE's are mostly white with two brown ones. Maybe I will get a Chocolate one.
