CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

Yes you may need to get yours checked out especially if it is recurring or you have had it for too long. I sometimes get very good sleep and for a week or so at a time I get insomnia, so sometimes I read a book to help me sleep. Are you anxious about some upcoming event or maybe you have a lot of thoughts going on when you're ready for bed? I have heard that women tend to think about so many things while they are about to go to sleep.

Yea stress has been off the charts lately. We are moving and kids (grown) and my parents are putting a lot of pressure on us plus DH injured his hip. Still it's been a problem for a while. Lately even when I think I'm drifting right off I find myself awake for hours. That part is different. Usually once I hit that zone I do go right to sleep even if I wake up later. Not sure why now, even when I'm relaxed and in that drifting state, my mind finds a way to stay awake.

I've had it off and on for almost 30 years now but it's never lasted very long before. Now it has been chronic for the last few years and getting worse it seems. The nights I do sleep for 8 hours are few and far between. A few months ago I slept pretty well for a whole week and I felt fantastic!!! I didn't realize how much my health was being affected by this until then. I thought I was slowing down due to old age but with a whole week of sleep I felt amazingly healthy and strong. I knew then that it was a serious problem. I've just been putting off going to the doctor cause we always have so much going on.

Ummm that's an excuse. I just don't like going to the doctor.

OK I'll put a reminder in my phone to call and make an appt. Not sure why I procrastinate so much on these things.

Thanks for stickin a pin in me. I needed it.

And thanks for the concern! It always amazes me when folks I've never met show concern for me. I guess when I'm typing I kinda feel like I'm just venting to thin air but you BYCers keep reminding me that you folks are just the best!!!

Hi Tressa

I added you to the first post. Welcome!

I didn't even hit submit and this thing did it on it's own.

I have never been a sleeper. Not even as a little girl. I didn't have a bedtime, because if I slept too long I was tired a grouchy all day. Made me tired to sleep. When I found my dad 10 years ago, he was exactly the same way. These days I just have a hard time sleeping. Had gotten better, but although Makayla usually sleeps with me it's not the same, so it's still like sleeping alone and just can't do it. I'm better though. It usually catches up with me and I'll have a longer sleep about once a month. I'm grouchy when it happens, but I know I need it. When I was first going out with Bill our first arguement was about my lack of sleep. I bartended and I'll get home about 3am and clean house, go to bed about 5, he'd got off work at the hospital at 7am and I'd be up and ready to go out on the bike with him by 7:30. After about a month he insisted a normal person couldn't do that and drugs had to be involved. I was HOT. Dumped him and wouldn't talk to him for 3 days. My then best friends chased him down and told him I was the STRAIGHT one and anything they did I didn't even want to hear about. That got me 2 doz red roses and some really pretty earrings that they helped him pick out. LOL

I went to the sale at JS West yesterday and bought a Cubalaya hen. I always say Bill wasn't really into chickens, but when I was hunting for my first roo he saw a pick of a Cuba in a Strombergs catalog and said that was the rooster we had to get. I'll be getting my roo finally in probably 3 weeks if I work things here out right. A couple more hens and I should be good. I think they are just gorgeous. Can't wait for that roo. The only long sweeping tails around here right now are on my Sumatras.

I also got a number for white Rocks, so I'll be able to add some size to my SPPRs next season. I can't wait! I didn't care for my barred Rocks, but I love my SPPRs.

Sunnydawn, be careful about taking any drugs that are prescribed for insomnia. A friend of mine got addicted to them and they made her crazy. It's a case of the cure being worse than the problem.

Sorry I haven't been around much.

Yea, that's why I've always avoided the cure. They are especially dangerous when combined with other drugs, like antidepressants. My Mom has had a few scary episodes of drug interaction problems. Real scary! I'm not on any other meds and my doctor knows how nervous I am about this. There are options now besides the traditional sleeping pills. We'll see what she says.

Kim R you crack me up! You get grouchy when you get too much sleep? Ok that's normal but usually it means the person got 10 hours or more not 5!

I'm grouchy when I don't sleep. Poor Hubby is really wanting me to get some help!

WOW 10 hours or more and I'm not only grouchy, but I'm mad. I feel like I missed too much.

I'm going to be planted in my ghetto greenhouse raised beds this week. I'm doing probably two for the animals and one or two for us. Also going to be using small frames and buckets to grow whatever I can inside the runs and hopefully the birds will all have some fesh stuff to eat this winter.

I'm supposed to be thinning my flock, but I just can't do it. Instead I got 5 new bantams today. help me..........................

So much for depending on my friends

But Kim, bantams don't count as whole chickens. You use the same formula as when you use bantie eggs for cooking - 2-3 bantam eggs (depending on size) equals a regular sized egg. Works the same way with the birds. This is the part of chicken math that works in our favor - without it my flock size would be >100, but with bantie math I'm only at about 50 birds!

Plus, who would you trust to provide a pedicure other than a bantie:

I also have this gorgeous 3 month old boy available - pure bantam ameraucana, hatched from an egg sent from Jean Ribbick! I am thinking of listing him on the auction pages, but would rather not have to ship him.
