My son came in with goose eggs from a friend's Egyptian Geese & wanted me to try hatching them. His friend's Dad keep a flock of them on the perimeter of his country property as watchdogs to keep the teensgers from jumping the fence & having booze &??? parties iut in his pasture where he can't see them. I tried puting them in the Brinsea but they wouldn't fit in the turning shelves so I fired up the external Hovabator to give them a shot. They are so ugly to me but Aaron said the pair of unner ducks & one crippled Canadian goose are not able to keep up with the grass in their pssture area so we need something else back there.....LOL

I think they're ugly cute. LOL I made a wire rack to fit on a turner. The eggs are actually flat, but they are still tilting. I just bend hareware cloth to make it. Good luck on the hatch. I know you'll be sportin those new babies soon.

Keep in mind that the females are very loud and the males and females are agressive. Extremely aggressive, if they have a nest. I rate my birds by how many garbage can lids it takes to fend them off...they are a two lid bird....one in each hand. They can also fly really well, so you might want to pinion them on day one. If they can fly they will always go for your head. They don't mess around with your feet. Most people like the way they look and don't let the small size lull you into thinking they are not dangerous. When you have one in hand, the first thing you will notice is how strong they are....incredibly strong for their size. I have very strong hands, and it is all I can do to hang onto a male. I have about 25 here.......I like them.

I've seen those large gray geese used as guard geese. They are scarey. I was with someone who had his Levis ripped by a few that were guarding a rural property. I can sweet talk most guard dogs but I don't mess with geese.

A friend of mine has Pilgrim geese. Those seemed to have a much better disposition and she said that they are excellent weeder geese. Maybe the Sebastopol geese might be an option, too.

Maybe you should have held onto those Sebastopols Karen. I thought they were so pretty anyway. I who love to have some if I ever get the chance.

One more mini hoop coop done and so is my back. I have more dirt on me than I have in my yard, if that's possible. I'd like to get the next one done. I have it up and the back on it, but I'm debating a shower, a long bath and another shower instead. It sure was nice to empty out that brooder though. The guineas must have thought I was going to kill them. Man did that scream. They're all out enjoying dust baths right now and loving it though. Did run into a little problem though. I got so carried away trying to get away with extra minis I need to come up with another roll of wire before I can finish the first big one. They were just so easy and cute I couldn't stop. Oh well. You can never have too many coops and whenever I move I'm going to use them as portables to just let a couple hang out here and there. That or they'll be full of quail. Never know what I might change my mind about. The tarps are the only thing I really get frustrated with, but I need to get more anyway and it will get done the way I think it's will work better.


OK the body hurts. Gave I have a pot roast leftover from last night and spaghetti from the night before. Anyone around here wants to eat, they better hit the fridge and the microwave.

Thanks for the heads up Walt, I will pinion them for sure. I hate aggressive animals but these will be my son's thing & they go way out back in the pasture behine the chicken pens no where where I will ever be going. Let him fight them off. He has been building pens for the Shamos today & has 2 separate ones since you said they can't be housed together. I haven't hear back from Suzann yet but Aaron will be ready when she get in touch with me.

Kim C, I like the gray Toulouse geese. I have had them before & they were not aggressive to me niether were my Embdens but the Chinese & Africans were &even the Sebastapools were alittle aggressive. I think If I got geese again for myself they would be the Embden. I feel inlove with thier big blue eyes. I need to call Craig Russel again too to see how thigs are progressing. Fall will be here before we know it.

Good for you getting so much done. I inch along like a slug getting little bits done here & there. I sold a cockerel & 5 pullets yesterday to a friend of Olivias Portuguese parents...poor Olivia said "I wish I was full blooded Portuguese likeAmanda".....LOL.My Blonde haired, blue eyed grand daughter looks more Swede than Portuguese. Her Portuguese is getting squeezed out...LOL I sold them a Light Sussex cockerel beuase they loved the look of mine, a L/S pullet, a Lavender AM pullet, a Splash Marans pullet & a mystery that I think might be a clean faced OE. They wanted pretty chickens & colorful eggs.I had no white egg layers big enough to go with those guys. Jules gave me Andalusian eggs that I hatched for future white egg layers when I discovered I had nothing that laid a white egg at all. She said hers are fantastic egg layers too all blues no blacks.

I have some blue/Black Silkie chicks & sold a few yesterday to a man & his son that drove down from Ripon. I should reallybget rid of the Silkies. They are the only bantam breed I have but they are just too cut.....LOL

I'm sure you guys are sick of me posting pics of my kid with birds. Sorry! He is JR vet Paige giving Sir Giles a clean bill of health. It must be fun having real chickens, ducks and geese to play pretend vet. I feel so blessed every day that we are able to give our kids these experiences. On a side note Sir Giles is the sweetest rooster ever. He lets you walk right up to him and pet him. He will let the kids pick him up and play with him. Such a sweet boy. He let Paige inspect him for 10 min while she fussed over him being so patient. Then Abby my little diva Sebastian! He is doing great!
