That sucks. Your pics look great and mine look like I bought them at the price club or something. I have dark egg, not dark enough but getting dark each egg and they look like crap in the pic.

Oh! I was wondering. I thought maybe she had posted on the wrong thread but then I saw that she had only posted once. Thanks for the explanation.Ok Dawn.
Just so you all know, this is a friend in AZ looking for the China gander. I stole her kinda lol and had her join so I could help her and so she could meet more CA people too. haha Once she's able to post pics, maybe we'll get to see all of her critters.
Welcome to BYC Bryden!!!
YEA! Good luck little chickie!Great looking eggs Sunny.
I have a BCM pipping this morning from an egg I didn't think would hatch. The egg was super dark, but covered in mud. They had laid it in the run. I decided what the heck and threw it in the incubator anyway. At lockdown, I couldn't see a thing through the shell and caked mud, but the egg felt heavy so I left it in. Everything else in the hatch was finished, but at day 23 this egg started to pip and now there is a fairly good sized hole. Go chickie!!!!![]()
Deb
Oh! I see that you posted that he hatched already. Yea! It took me forever to get this post to finally post so a lot of folks posted during that time.
Peter has been working on his egg color for a very long time, and has had great success, but just so folks understand, once a marans egg has been blown out it will continue to darken as it ages. It is hard to tell what the original egg color was like if it is an older blown out egg.Is that the original egg or the Olive egg? I can see the dark marans eggs and the blue eggs fine. Its the egg that is blue, thicker from the Marans heritage AND has the brown coating that I have issues with. I didn't have luck with the brinsea candler when I had one. The lights I have are 400 lumes and work on everything else.
Unless they are actually Black eggs. Peter had 2 of his darkest blown out eggs at the show, they put all my eggs to shame. They looked like they were covered in magic shell, the chocolate stuff you put on ice cream. The only eggs I have seen in persons that were 9's.
They are soooo pretty! Love those girls!Yes, GO Chickie from a dark egg full of mud!
OK, another pic of my obsession........huh? yes? don't count on it? huh? huh?![]()
Oh, never mind.....not red lipstick yet.....but they're so darn pretty aren't they? The two black EE's both went broody last year and I'm begging them to do it again or I'm going to need an incubator....I have orders for over a dozen EE chicks and whatever Marans we hatch. I've decided I will buy an incubator but I want a decent one...no more Little Giant, I can't babysit like I had to with the LG. OK, late for work again! If I worked for myself, I'd be fired for habitual tardiness!![]()
I have been on Peter Ovalle's list for 2 & 1/2 years. He has a small flock and a lot of folks that want eggs. Also he does not supplement light during winter so getting any eggs during that time is almost impossible. I'm not saying you will have to wait that long... I don't want to ship them so we are trying to get our schedules to mesh long enough for a meetup when DH and I are over in that area and it's been tough... just saying you might have to wait a little bit for eggs. Yes he is a very nice guy and works really hard as the Western Regional Director for The Marans Club of America.Peter overall (sp) the guy who runs the Pacific Marans Club. He won a bunch at Stockton, and he is a nice guy, with excellent birds. Last year he put me on his list but never contacted me, so Im Guessing I went on the to put on list and didn't get moved. But Mario may kill me if I get more Marans.
I'm not sure what lp Marans are, but it sounds like a lot for a pair of marans, unless they are really good, and can you tell yet in juvies? Speaking of surprise chickens, ron, im about to send you a PM.
BDM, how big an incubator are you looking for? Someone on another thread said brinsea sells the octagon 20 that are seconds ( scratches etc) for around 110. That is a crazy good price if they have them, and they don't need babysitting.
