CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

I thought I was going to be on more, but Dec ended up being a hard time for me, so I stayed low key and rarely got online. Hope you all had a great holiday.

So how many are going to make it to Stockton this month? Can't wait!

I need some help with something. Where can I take my old Sportsman to be serviced? Needs to be in or very close to Modesto. Last year's hatches were my worse yet and I'm determined to make sure I get better ones this year. If it hadn't been for broodies I'd have had close to nothing hatching. I was going to get rid of some breeds, but every time I looked in a pen I remembered that this one or that one was a great broody, so haven't gotten rid of any of them... opps! Anyway I'm just not sure what's going on and I need good hatches this year. Sure would be nice to get back into the 90's and 100's when I set those eggs. I do get a few, very few to hatch, but it has to be something with the bators and that one holds the big numbers and I want big numbers. The others are scrubbed and bleached, and waiting to be plugged back in. I still haven't unplugged one, cause I just can't seem to do it. I March I'll have had at least one bator going 24/7 for 4 years. Guess I feel like at least one has to be going or I won't do it later. hehe

I lost the blue AM pullets I hatched out to one of my dogs. I have no idea why they thought it was a good idea to go into the dog run or even how they got in other than flying over the gate, but they did. All 3! Have to use the black pullets from that pen now to breed to my blue roos. I do have blue hens, but was working on a little younger girls. I have some pretty lavenders though. Well that is, as long as they don't go visit that dang dog! I'd like to wring her neck, but she was penned, so my fault. Hoping to get my Chocolate Bantam AMs going better this year and a lot of my FBCM hens are getting up there in age, so need to hatch out as many of those breeds as I can, which means those bators have to cook em correctly!

I will be going to Stockton can't wait

Me, too!!!! I'm determined to get there early this year! Maybe I can persuade DH to do the chicken chores for me on that Sat morning!

We are going to Hollister (this weekend) and Stockton.
Kim there is a place called Rochas feed store (or something like that) in Ceres that works on Sportsmans. Or maybe ask JS west since they sell them on who fixes them locally.

I feel the love!! LOL

I posted this on FB and thought I'd do the same here.

Yes I'm cheap and easy. It's one of the reasons Bill loved me so much. LOL No I don't mean that way. I'm simi easy to please in some cases. Bought feed and then figured I'd see if I could get lucky enough for the boards they toss out at Home Depot. Noting in that bin, so I checked the stuff they mark down and came across these. I have another 8ft piece at Olivia's, but couldn't get it home that day, but the board on the right is 8ft, so now I have 2. Yes I get excited on discounts. I was also looking for after Christmas sales for lights. NOTHIN! Been to 4 stores and not even a loose bulb. Glad I bought a few the other day. So anyway they had these 4 pieces of plywood and they were marked at 75% off. Each piece came to over 6 bucks. BUT! I love my HD people and they almost always love that I'm using things for my animals. They asked what I was working on this time and I said "coops!" Soooo.........They checked to see if they could sell all of these as a full board with the 75% off and we got an OK. I usually don't get my Military discount on discounted wood, but they took it. YAY! So 75% off of $16 and some change, 10% Military discount and I got it all for $5.88!!!! I see at least one bantam coop being build soon. Now to find board for framing Trying to keep each coop for the bantams at least, under $20 and I think this is gonna help.
