OK! Just got some good new about the Reno Poultry Show. Peter Ovalle just sent me this email.

Hello, I’m happy to announce the first ever MCC USA sponsored egg show in Nevada! The Northern Nevada Poultry Fanciers Association (NNPFA) has agreed to allow for the egg show at their annual show.

This show will be held on November 19, 2011, at the Nevada State Fairgrounds/Reno Livestock & Events Center Pavilion in Reno Nevada. The Marans Chicken Club USA (MCC USA) is excited to be following up the recent success experienced at the Crossroads of America Poultry show with yet another first.

Please mark your calendars and don’t forget to get your egg entries in. Egg entries will be accepted up until November 18th.

...Remember, MCC USA egg shows are open events and all marans owners are encouraged to participate. Don’t miss this great opportunity to introduce more people to marans.

Please direct all egg show queries and entries to me at the address listed below [email below]. Bird entry forms must be postmarked by November 7th. More event details can be found by visiting the NNPFA club website: http://www.wix.com/poultryfancier/nnpfa#!

I haven't been to a chicken swap or "stock" yet but whenever I met the smaller breeders who sold me my Marans and Ameraucanas, it was always fun to see their flocks and get to know them. The people I met were all so friendly.

I have enjoyed every chicken person I've met so far. Most of them are just great, down to earth folk.

DH and I went to the first Northern CA swap/meet up. It was a blast. We were able to bring our chickens to that one. That was very cool. I sold all that I brought to sell that day. It was great being able to see everyone's chickens (well what they brought I mean) and get to know everyone. That's where DH and I met Bill and Kim.

Won't be coming to this one but we will be at the Reno show on the 19th.

This is off topic, but...

My American Guinea Hog, Dove, had a litter of 11 piglets today!

I got to see most of them born. She didn't even show any pain and they come out so fast.

One is a runt, not sucking well, so will probably not make it. The rest are very healthy and active, so I am grateful!

They will be for sale, when weaned. If you know of anyone who would like a small, friendly breed of pig or a barrow to raise for pork, let me know.

I've been so bummed, because I didn't get the Dorkings that I expected, at the Crossroads show. This has lifted my spirits!

I also am afraid to jinx it, but a friend is incubating some Delaware eggs, from Bill Braden, for me.

Hi guys, don't know where else to post this... Does anyone know of any chicken friendly rentals in the Eureka/ Arcata area? It's not exactly a searchable requirement on most housing listings and I'm having problems finding one!

I'm looking all over too. If I see anything I'll let you know.

I spent most of the day out back turning over my back yard. It's a lot of yard. I have one raised bed up and need one or two more. I also need the side of the yard turned for all my little coops. Eventually I should have 8-10 I think. You know how chicken math is.

So I had started on one side all the way to the back and today started by the coops and pens, so the ground will be level and I can work at adding the new pens to the coops. Hopefully if we just get a little bit of rain I won't have to hold off on more digging. I've found car parts, electronic equipment, bottle and cans, lots of edging bricks and today??????????? Someone's bra and panties. I almost gagged. I hate to think what else is back there. I was talking with one of my daughters and told her what I found. Then I told her I was almost afraid I'd find a body. She said if I find a body to make sure I call her so she can check out all the hot cops and CSI agents. I'm almost afraid. LOL I can't believe all the junk out there. It's like the yard was so full of junk, that they brought in topsoil and covered it to put in grass. Grass? Well, it's green. For the most part anyway. I have most all of the tumble weeds dug out. Boy what a huge pile they made. The landlords cut down several trees, si"m also trying to remove a few of the stumps.

I wish I had some Calgon right about now.

There's so mich I haven't done since Bill died and so the big jobs that I thought would be done last summer were held off for over a year. But I see progress, so that's making me feel pretty good. I may not be working like I used to, but any improvement out there is something. When we first moved in Bill told the landlords not to worry about the yard, because I'd have it landscaped in about a month. Yipes!

I wonder of there's a truck buried out there??? I'd like to have a truck again.
