CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

I actually goggled "what are thai chickens for" and I got alot of thai cock fighting websites, so I guess that answers that. As for eating them and the eggs, the egg production is probably weak, I'm guessing along the lines of Maylay, which the breed section says 70 eggs per year.

The coops were right around 99 and golden state, well, around that exit.

Well, giving your sister's neighbors the benefit of the doubt I'm guessing they have their gamebirds probably for the same reason I have my Sumatra, not to engage in illegal activities using their birds but because of their beauty and ornamental purpose. Everyone has their preferences and maybe the appearance of the Thai fowl, because it's unusual looking in nature, attracted their attention enough to raise the breed.

Only 70 eggs a year?!!!

That wouldn't work for me.

There has been a push the last couple of years for folks to take an interest in the unusual/historic breeds of fowl to keep their numbers up. Many have fallen out of favor with flock raisers so their numbers are dwindling. Course if the majority of the info you got back from Google was for only one purpose... Still I'm hoping it is purely for the sake of preserving the heritage breeds.

well, they're not very pretty birds, but maybe its more cultural that having them to fight. I know my sister's neighbor also has some bantams, they have them in cages, which is kind of depressing to see so many little birds stuffed into a cage.

I just finished coop #2 today, well see how the 6 week EE chicks did, I was almost going to put a light on them but they seemed so warm huddled together that I think they'll be ok. I'm glad to be rid of those chicks, out of all 19 only 5 were friendly, the others were almost like feral little hand pickers.

I've never see coops out that way either.......or have I . Did the place also have goats? I know there's a place north bound that has goats, so you'd figure chickens too, right?

I'm fighting a cold. Been trying to keep ahead of it, but this morning I ache and I've been hugging a box of tissue. That's what I get for having fun yesterday.

We went out to Brentwood for our "Twighlight" get together. Every since the the second one my daughter and grand daughter have a sleepover (we past on that this time), they watch the movies starting with the original Twighlight and work their way down. I make werewolf cupcakes, but mention that they are not truely werewolves, they are Shape Shifters, darn it! At least I had backup on that yesterday when one of my daughter's friends came and at least she paid attention to what her dad taught her about heritage. My kids lack there. So frustrating. So we have pizza and then go watch the newest movie.

I think the first time she did this there was between 50 and 60 kids and I made like 60 - 70 cupcakes. All the kids brought a white t-shirt and my daughter put iron on transfer of whatever they wanted. It was kind of cool to walk them all in and have everyone ask about their shirts. We had pics and Teams Jacob and Edward on them and they kids just loved them. This time my daughter had just been laid off and decided not to do the party, bu tmy 13 yr old grandson caled her and asked when she was doing it, so she called me and when we couldn't find anywhere out here that wasn't already sold out for the early cheapie show, we got things together and had kind of a mini one. Still ended up being 15 or so people and I got stuck behind a very slow truck on highway 4 so we went sraight to the theater and passed cupcakes out during the trailers. My daughter's friend was here from LA and she took pics of her cupcake and didn't want to eat it because it was art. LOL I told her she better eat that thing.

The movie was great. If you're a Twilight fan and haven't seen it, you're going to love this one.

Topped off my trip by wrecking the front end of my car, yet again! Amazing how you can drive right over those stupid cement stops in a parking lot, but backing up can rip off a bumper. I wish I had a cement drive, cause the gravel is soaked and I can't get under the darn thing to see if my bungies are still holding it in place. Thank goodness I keep a package of those in my trunk. Not my daughter and one of her friends are going to start, cause they were so impressed I had something back there for emergencies. More like to hold my trunk down with large items in the trunk, but they sure come in handy. Hope the VA starts paying my survivor benefits soon, cause if they don't I'll really be home bound. I almost never have a car to drive during the holidays and this didn't help. When that money shows I'm going out to find a nice cheal Accord like I started to do when I got this car. Then I can stick this one in a shop and just use it when I have fun things to go to and not drive in into the ground. Oh yeah. Yesterday was a fun thing and I tore the bummper off. hmm

It came out to the movie theatre on my birthday I was hoping someone would take me to a matinee......LOL. My daughter Cari threw a surprise birthday party for me the next day & I didn't have a clue. In fact, I had Taylot & a 4H choicken friend of his & her daughter over looking at chickens that day..... Sorry to have to have rushed you like that Taylor. Please tell your friend you are welcomed back anytime & I will gladly spend more time giving you more information.....

Snow. I want snow.

So - we live in Sillycon Valley. I want to go somewhere in December or January for a long weekend. I want snow. Not lots of snow - I don't want DH to have to drive through heavy snow. But, it would be nice to be somewhere with some snow and trees. A place with a nice fireplace.

Neither of us ski. Or ice skate. We do a lot of walking (and some "hiking"). We have a dog. And we'd like somewhere we can bring the dog and go for long walks in the snow.

Any suggestions from the California natives on somewhere within a day's drive of San Jose? I'm investigating now so I can make reservations for later.
