CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

So far no pics yet but hopefully while I'm out back tomorrow.

Sunny, let me know when you need to make your changes. Oh wow..........looks like I need to add breeds. LOL

OHHHHHH.........I can't believe I didn't mention that I picked up my trio of bantam CHOCOLATE AMs!!!!!!!!!!!! Actually 2 chocolate pullets and a split black roo. They're so cute! And I also got 2 more FBCM pullets and a new Silver Phoenix roo.

That's great news. I got an egg today from a new layer. It was soooo dark, I got all excited!

You all have fun at the show today. We are not going to brave the snow and ice on the pass. I'll miss seeing you all the most but I would have loved seeing the dark egg contest too!
Oh Sunny, how exciting!!! I can't wait to see pictures! Everyday when I pick up eggs I'm so anxious thinking there could be a dark chocolate in there. Their combs are getting redder by the minute! I swear they're just teasing me! I think they're about 21-22 weeks, is that too early for this breed?
Guess what? I actually won birds in the raffle this time. Nw have a HUGE air of LT Sussex in my kithen. Yes! My kitchen. Have to spend the day rearranging the back yard and putting together another pen.

28 to 30 for mine.

Well shoot! Did yours red up a long time before they laid because these girls are really red and one is a little brighter then the other. They're hanging with the roo and even squatting for him but I haven't seen her let him finish.

They were odd for starting to lay. The two that went with Chiqita started around 26 weeks. The two that the guy at work took, waited until well after 30 weeks.

Normally I would say yours should start In a couple of weeks based on the squatting. Getting through winter and into spring should help.

I hope yours are earlier! Please post pictures when you can of the pullets and later the first egg!

Hello. Simi Valley here. Currently have 10 laying hens. Looking for some local fertile eggs to try my hand at incubating.

Hi and Welcome!

I am in Woodland so a bunch north of you.

Trader Joes and Whole Foods have Fertile eggs. They are cheap and a good way to learn. I hatched two TJs from a dozen. They are the white pullets in my Avatar.
