Oh my gosh! I meant to post about that! We have been working with them a lot these past few days and today was the first time we let them off leash to play together. They had a blast! We took them out of the yard (neutral territory) and let them run free over several acres we have behind us and they did really well! Samson is still a little too playful in the house especially when they start trying to show dominance. But we just separated them when this started.
No growling or barking though! Delilah will just put her head on his neck or shoulder and he will stand up and put her on her side. Both of these gestures are messages of dominance. She is much smaller but almost 2 years older and she is also the more calm, stable of the two but Samson seems to think his size qualifies him to be dominant. I don't know who will prevail but as soon as they get too energetic with these postures we separate them so it has remained peaceful and playful so far.

Are the pullets you have on cl white, meat chickens?
Where are you getting the plastic coated chicken wire? Panels sound cool! Hope everything is going well.

Yesterday was a long day. I'm still beat. Haven't been out side except to open the door and watch chickens run for me like I was serving a buffet. Could see the ones not out and closed the door. They don't want me to hold them, but boy do they show up when they think I'll toss something to get them out of my way.

While I'm turning over the backyard I have another project I'm working on a little at a time. Hopefully it will house my little bantams until I get the money to do more for them. My neighbors were building a dove cage when we first moved in. They saw Bill out working on my Game pen and asked if I wanted a little makeshift cage. It's an old cabinet that they laid down and added wire to. I used it as my Ghetto tracktor and then I used it for my d;Uccles and a little bantam hen that I still have no idea what she is. I just didn't do much after Bill died and I think I got this the weekend before.

So I pulled all the wire off a couple of nights ago and added legs so far. So I thought I'd add pics as I go. It's nothing that I think will hopd of for even a couple of years, but it's something to work with. Right now I just need housing that wasn't last years temps, so this year's instead. LOL

This is what I started with.

And with a little reinforcing, but needing more and some legs added. The legs are oak pallet boards I got free at HD.

Not much done, but it was dark and I wanted to keep working on something, just had to stop digging things up. LOL

Sorry to keep you hanging Karen. Working with things for my daughter and Makayla around the funeral. I want to go, but I think Chickenstock added to a problem I had car wise, so lots of short running trips. Hopefully next week if that's alright. I really am sorry I'm such a dingbat. But I've about got the area I want them in done.



I think I have a migraine coming on and trying to chase it off. I just wanted ot spend a couple of hours outside and thinking all of a sudden that that isn't going ot happen. Darn it. I came in here for a reason too, but I've forgotten what it was. Think it's Excederine time.

I have a couple of CL ad going. The young cockerels are Indian Rivers bred for meat but are a good meat/egg, dual purpose bird. They are 1/2 New Hampshire & half Delaware. The others are misc. cockerels that are loose non SOP BCMs, White Rocks etc....... I sold a really nice BCM cockerel today that I maybe should have kept. His biggest fault was way too much red on his chest that maybe he would have molted out. I don't know,.............. but I could have waited for him to be over a year & see.
I get all my poultry supplies from Strand over on Esmar, turn right off of Service Rd. a few roads past Faith Home Rd. going West. The people are so nice to work with. Daniel is my warehouse helper.............a real help to me. I always joke that I am probably their smallest customer in money spent.....LOL. It is a privately owned big commercial supply. When they ran out of the wire they even told me where else to go get it. The rolls I get are 150 feet long by 6' tall & cost $201 but thats alot of panels. I think that works out to about 25 panels worth. You get used to working with it off the roll after awhile. My son Aaron & I work well together.
Capavalley, I don't have pictures but quess I could take some. They are quite easy to construct. I cut 2 2 by 3s 72" long & the other 2 69" long & place them so the sq they make measures 72' by 72'. I stand the 2 by 3 up on their side & predrill & then screw 2 #10 3" long screws in each corner. I make a triangle brace to screw into each corner for strength & to keep them square. We set them with 3 #8 2&1/2" screws i one one side & 2 on the other. Then we stretch 6' of the wire across the top & staple it down & trim it. It makes a pretty solid panel & we are saving a pretty penny.
As far as tours go, I don't know who you could possibly be talking to. My place is no mansion & is made up of a lot of recycling & home made, make do............. I so love doing things like that though. If you are ever in the area you are welcomed to come by. That is all long as you promise not to expect too much. Glamorous it is NOT!!!!!

It kinda tickled me that you thought we might have the means to compete at that level. After reading that pm I've about given up on the idea of breeding shepherds at all! Aren't there folks out there that just want these papered dogs for pets or for working purposes?

Our female (the AKC dog) is the sweetest dog ever! She is such a love bug and so eager to please! Watching her and Samson play is so much fun! Samson, our male (only has the German papers, no AKC pedigree) is sooo gorgeous even if he is a little oversized. He is a little hyper but is only a year old. He is smart as a whip though so he is learning very quickly. I just think they would make the most wonderful puppies! I had German Shepherds throughout my childhood and love the breed cause they are sooo great with kids! These two are no exception. They both love children and even my male seems to know that he needs to stay calm around little ones. Do I really need to spend $25,000 on a dog to breed when I don't show them?

Sorry for my ignorance about SQ dogs. I am trying to hear what you're saying, I know your experience in this area is exceptional!!! If my circumstances ever change I think I just need to hire you! It would take me awhile to absorb all the knowledge you have amassed over the many years you showed and won with your fantastic dogs!!! Just don't think I can ever compete at this level unless I hit the lotto or something like that.

Karen I agree! I too would love to see pics of the fence panels that you and your DH are making!
