CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

Every time I went out to collect eggs there was a hen in one of the boxes and I just waited to collect. It's cool outside,so I wasn't worried about them getting warm, but I had to do the same thing yesterday and I had to fight Fat Chick for the eggs. I told her "No going broody!" Well this evening I had to fight her for the eggs again. 6 of them! I think I need to set up a small pen and area for her to wonder and if she still feels like setting, I'll stick some eggs under her. Maybe she'll do a better job than I'm doing the past two hatches.

This is a great idea. I like the links. Thank you for putting in the extra work and effort for us fellow Californians. I have been looking for anyone in CA who might be breeding Dominiques. We would really love to add a mellow rooster to our flocks of 5 hens.

Not sure if anyone out there in California happens to have a rooster for sale. We had an awesome little guy who died suddenly for no apparent reason. We are totally puzzled. No sign of predators or disease. So odd.

Broodys are the best hatchers!

Pam I gave almost all of the babies a bath tonight. I think they get dirty on purpose so I'll dunk them in the warm water again then snuggle them while I dry them off.

I'll try to get pics tomorrow. Hopefully they stay clean til then!

Welcome to the thread. I'll add you to the first post. Off the top of my head I can only think of Sewngrow, but she just hatched out chicks. I'm sure you'll find someone. They were a big part of my last flock, but I haven't owned one in over 2 years now. There's a list of breeders on the first post, so there may be someone there, but there are always roosters to rehome, so I bet you find one near you quick.

LOL I bet you are bored out of your skull about now. I hated the long recovery after the surgery but you won't be down near as long as I was. I'll have to wait til Steve gets home to take pics. My back is acting up and it won't cooperate with me right now.

I can't compete with those adorable duck pics, but here's one of my GS, Kaleb, checking out some of my SGDs...

Kim

Awwwwww, he's a cutie Kim!

Boy, you can say that again! So thankful for BYC and Facebook! Another week or so of being down and then I can start doing a little more but have to take it easy for the next 4-6 months and thru the next year! Sorry to hear your back is acting up again....or should I say still acting up. I hope there's something that can be done for you. I know you're putting off another surgery but while I'm in a lot of pain, it's SO different from what I had prior to surgery and I'm so glad I did it.

Stephanie, those ducks are so darn cute! Kim, the ducks are cute but that grandson of yours is a cutie patootie and those chickens of yours are gorgeous!
