It's good to have you here.

OK, what is Arnica! I have 3 good size incisions on my back. Would love to minimize the scaring...you know, for when I'm in my bikini!

Oh, and Kim, I'll stop bending when you stop carrying things! On the 110 degree hatch, very disappointing but....one is better then none right? Add that it's a lavender makes it even better!

Scovy Momma, that's one cute duck!

Well we'll see how long my car runs this time. Cool thing was parts and repairs were $45. I didn't even have to call my daughter and ask her to stick money in my bank account.

Still hurts and and as my doctor says, it's tight, but she was shocked at how much I can move my wrist. She said with all the damage and how long it took to get it corrected, she didn't think it would get this far and so soon. Told her what I had been doing and then mentioned carrying things with it and she tells me with her eyes bulging to stop. I have to wear the brace all the time for at least 3 more weeks and then start weaning it off. I go back in 6 weeks and she said to make sure I have this on most of the time till my next appointment. My arm is still bruised. Not from the surhery, but from the fall. It's still purple. She couldn't believe how bad the bruising is and was. She also couldn't believe how well the inscission is fading. Vitamin E and Arnica gel. She said she needs to study up on Arnica.

Well out of the 39 eggs that were cooked at 110 I got the one chick. It's one of my lav egg projects and it's blue. Now I have 2 blues and the others are my splashy girls.

BigDaddysMom! Stop bending over!!!!!!!!!!!

Yay on the car repairs! And I'm so glad your arm is doing better. Just be careful with it. It's so easy to re-injure yourself by trying to do too much too soon.

I hope your next hatch does better. you said you had 200 in bator?

I actually lost count. I have the Sportsman packed and I mean packed. I had to lockdown and didn't have an empty hatcher. Never hatched anything other than quail in there, so nervous after the last 3 hatches when I was doing it right. So 104 in Lockdown and Probably another 170- 200 still in there cooking. I think there are about 8 quail in there too. Guess that's closer to 300 huh? oops

I'm watching the arm. I have things I need to do and I need it to heal and work right, so I'm going to baby it a while like she said to do.

Great to hear that the arm is doing well and that your car repair was so cheap Kim! So sad about all those eggs but still great to hear that a lavender egg baby survived!!!

The cool thing is this next mix is giving me blue babies. Now if I could get them darker and have purple chickens and purple eggs. hehe I asked "How much?" 3 times when my mechanic told me how much he was charging. Probably my Easter discount since he knows I'll be back. LOL

That's us! Crazy! LOL Welcome to the thread. I'll add you to the first post.

I always have Arnica gel on me. I've used it for years. I kind of messed up when I first broke this thing though. I bought Arnica pellets so the bone would heal faster. Bad thing is it did and then having to chip all that away and turn the bone around made it harder during surgery I guess. Anyway you want to make sure the area is very very clean. Use the Arnica gel to make the inscission close faster and use a ton of Vitamin E as it starts healing. I didn't ut the E on it till the Arnica started closing it up. BTW it says not to use on open wounds. I've used it for about 30 years. The reason they tell you not to is because it heals very fast and if it's not clean you can seal in infection. I break toes, ribs and fingers all the time. Like at least once a year. I rub in the gel and I take the pellets and I can usually mend in at leat 2/3 the time. Arnical gel is sold as a sports rub. It also will clear bruising. I must have had some really deep bruising since I'm still purple. I had a customer once that in his drunkin stuuper made a crud remark and got punched out. Man did he have a shinner. I handed him my gel and he thought I was joking, but 2 hours after he used it it was much lighter. I gave him the rest of the tube (used to do that with everyone) and he brought me a new one the next day and backed me up when I preached the stuff. OK I could keep going on about this stuff, Oh, it looks like I already did.

OOPS! Arnica and Arnica Gel can be found in healthfood stores.

Welcome Running8rima to the California thread! I think us Californians need to stick together. So we need a whole state thread. I know that sounds weird coming from a Nevadan but trust me the native Nevadans don't consider any of us from Cali as natives! We are still Californians through and through and they let us know it.

OK Kim and Pam! Keep the good advice coming! I will need it for the next surgery which will most likely be sometime this year. You two are true friends indeed!

Well, since I don't live in an area with an active thread, I bounce around. Would love to see this "all inclusive" CA thread a little more active. Sunny, you fit in anywhere you go! I'm so glad we've become friends! Hope there isn't a "residency required" to post on any certain threads. Most people are "from" somewhere besides their current address and besides, the common denominator is chickens, which should qualify all of us to post anywhere, right?

Welcome Running,
I think we are all welcome to post anywhere we have an interest to. I am a native Californian & at this point in my life will probably die where I am. I was born in Modesto & in 65 years live 14 miles down the road in Turlock..............LOL I am a real go getter right??? LOL I was raised in Oakland for mostof my childhood though. I just came back when i was old enough to choose. I love the country environment.
I am continuing my struggle to cut back. Sold a bunch of chicks yesterday & have people coming from Hesperia & Redding to pick up grown birds this week. That will be 2 more pens free to put birds from the grow out bins in.
I think I will end up giving up the Black Minorcas too. They are not laying enough eggs for me. I won a SQ pair at the Fresno show & already had a pair from the same breeder Bridget Little. They are great looking birds but I am not much for ornamentals or the Mediterrean look.
Have a Happy Easter everyone.!!!!!!!!

Have a wonderful Easter day everyone! Spent the last 2 days gardening and moving chicks and chickens around. The tolbunt polish are back home until the cockerel decides to crow! I had to free up a pen at the ranch to put my new silver pencil rock boy.

He looks short compared to my other roo, so I'm not sure if he is the one to keep. Shoot, oh well the quest for the perfect silver pencil roo may continue. I'm going to take a ton of pictures and have Walt take a look to see if he will be a good candidate for my breeding pen.

As I speak Larry is out retrieving our dogs. They have escaped again, we have been dealing with this for weeks, they were getting out of a whole in the fence and we keep patching it with more hardware cloth etc but when I woke up this am they were gone. I just got a call from someone that found them 2 miles away. Sounds like we are building a wood fence today...hope home depot is open of Easter

The best way to make a thread active is to bump it up with daily posts from those of us subscribed to the thread. Also, post pictures.

I am about to work on getting the first egg thread bumped up again. There hasn't been a post there in a couple of weeks.

Ron
