CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

I bought Oxine a few months ago and it came with a free container of Citric Acid. I'm not going to use it and don't want to just throw it away and can't think of another use for it.

You can use it like a natural type of Lime Away. Mix it with baking soda to remove hard water deposits, etc. I use it to clean the bathroom and sometimes sprinkle a little in the dishwasher.

Yes I have to admit we all love it up here! It's rugged country but it is amazing having the room to spread out and the countryside is beautiful to a desert rat like me. It's awfully far from the kids and Grandkids though. They are all in CA still.

Must have been a night for enchiladas! That's what I made last night. Sunny, I add a can of Cream of Mushroom to the large canned enchilada sauce. Even the mild can get a little nippy for my husband. I like hot but him, not so much.

Ooooh, I never thought to make a creamy enchilada sauce. Sounds good! I like the homemade stuff but until I get my surgery done fast dinners are going to have to be the rule around here, unless DH is here to help.

Anyone else have some fast dinner ideas?

This is one of my fastest and frequently requested at potlucks. They think you went to a lot of work.

Put a single layer of frozen taquitos in a baking dish (any variety, I prefer beef), pour over a large can of enchillada sauce, sprinkle with a few big handfuls of pre-shredded cheese, sprinkle with some olives. Bake at 350* for 30-45 minutes and serve with sour cream and a few slices of avocado. Prep time takes less than 15 minutes, it depends on how fast you can open two cans, a box and a bag of cheese.

Originally I made it up, I notice it is now printed on the box.

Kim,

The citric acid is an activator for the Oxine. I just ordered Oxine and wondered why Amazon offered the citric acid with it, so I read further and saw that the directions say to put it in the water with the Oxine to activate it. Glad I figured that out and didn't just order the Oxine!

I read somewhere that you don't need to use the citric acid activator. Does anyone know? I'm thinking about ordering some Oxine so would like to know for sure.

Debi,

I had read the same thing, that the activator wasn't necessary when using it for the livestock. I may be mistaken, but that was the gist of it. It will be interesting to see what others know of it.

Your right! I am glad you asked because when I looked into it further I found out that when activating it with the citric acid it is recommended you use a respirator mask to apply it :( The article I read said that it is safer and still effective when not activated.
