Hi,
I'm Haley. I currently have 13 chickens, I'm fairly new to them but having so much fun learning. Right now I have Ellie the buff orpington, Fabio the BLRW rooster, Merabeth the Asian blue, Farrah,Fallon and Fern all BLRW, Betty and Blossom the blue cochins, Hazel the Isa brown, and Dixie, Peep, and Drumstick the production reds in the coop. Finally, my favorite, Eli is an 7-8 week old cockerel. I rescued him at 2 weeks from a local hatcher after he got rained on at 1 week old in an outdoor brooder and started having seizures. He wasn't even able to stand to get food and water. He's now happy as ever although he does seem to have permanent brain damage from the seizures as he's still pretty wobbly and falls sometimes. He has his own private coop for now and he goes out everyday as of this week and sleeps in my bedroom at night. He really thinks he is a dog, he follows me everywhere and sleeps in my lap. We have a special bond because we both have seizures and difficulty walking sometimes. He's very active and always let's me know if he wants to be held.:) I was told when I took him home that he was a California White pullet but I've since been told he is a rooster which doesn't affect anything he will be staying with me but his comb doesn't look like a California White to me(it looks fairly similar to my wyandotte rose combs at this age) so does anyone know if he is a California white or something else?

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. The picture is really too fuzzy to make out the color of the comb and wattles, although what little I can see of them, they appear to be quite red which would be indicative of a cockerel. Also, I'm wondering if your bird is actually a California White. How big is it compared to your other 5 week olds? Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Thank you so much! I don't currently have any other of his age since i wasnt planning on taking him i just went to buy chicken feed and happened to talk to the owner about saving a chick that had a bad case of vent prolapse and i work for a veterinarian so she asked if i would try and save him. I'm not sure of his breed actually, California white was just what I was told but I was also told he was a pullet so there's no telling! Lol do you have any ideas of what he may be? Thanks again!:)

I don't see any of the black flecks in him that are typical of California Whites (he could have a few that I just can't see in the pic). He looks like a Rose Comb White Leghorn in your pic.
