California white VS White Plymouth Rock

I only have one Cal. White (Blossom) she is a little over a year now and one of my friendlier girls, she prefers to stay on my shoulder the whole time I'm in the coop and lays with out fail. I think out of all the time she has been laying she has only missed 3 days total. I would get more if they were all like her. Sorry I don't know anything about White Rocks.
Good luck with whatever breed you choose.

Brody's Broodello :

The cornish crossed on the rocks(sold as broilers) get big fast, but the laying ablilty is not transfered over to them. They are lousy layers, just an FYI. So if you want a good layer, go with the white rocks.

I was trying to figure out what to breed to the White Rock to get the fast maturing birds for meaties. So, do you cross the WR hens with a Cornish Roo or vice verses?

I was wondering about breeding the meaties. Do you breed the WR hen to the Cornish Roo or vice versa?

I'm not sure it matters- but you can order them already crossed as "cornish x"

I've never had the cali whites, but i have lots of rocks. The white one is my favorite- we call her "The Ringleader" .

I have 1 California white and she is a wonderful bird! She lays very well and I don't see her as flighty, she isn't as friendly as my gold sex links but I think she is just fine. She is the smallest bird I have but lays nice large to extra large white eggs, she is very efficient and very rarely misses a day. I would recommend them in a heartbeat. I think I will be getting another one this spring.

eta: Mine is solid white but I do know that they can have random black spots. A picture of mine is on my BYC page, her name is "Ducky".

Great thread. I have been wondering about California Whites as well because I live in a cold climate and had heard that these birds are very hardy. I will definitely put them on my spring order. Thanks for asking the question Sillystunt.

I was thinking that the Cornish Roo would be too small to breed the White Rock hens, and then the White Rock Roo would be too large to breed Cornish Hens. But, I do not know how big these breeds of birds are either.

You could always AI them.
