I'm a bit confused we bought three sexed pullets and they were labeled as white californias on there brooder in store. They are now 5 months old. This week id started getting two eggs from our coop. But they were brown and we didn't feel both of our rhodeisland reds were laying. So i noticed the " white california in the laying box this afternoon. I waited and watched to see if she was actually going to lay. And she did. But the egg is not white. Its a extremely light brown with white specks. I tried to take a photo. I read online to check her ears. Which i also took a photo of. I believe she should lay white but im lost. Please help.

According to the quick google I just did, California Whites should have red ears. This bird has white. I would say that I thought this chicken looks like a leghorn cross, but that's what a California White is.... I still think this is a California White, just that she got the brown paint can, and not the white.

Maybe an Amberlink? It looks like she has brown leakage instead of black spots. That could just be the lighting in the photo though. One of mine looks pretty similar, I think her ears are mostly red with some white leakage though.
