Californian Rabbits - I got them! Woot!!!

After reading several books, talking to rabbit meat producers in other states, choosing the finest meat producer, my preference for rabbits we had as kids, talking with my husband and prayer I chose the californian rabbits.

I don't know if I could process them, though... I grew up with siamese cats and those markings are just too similar...

Any plans on utilizing the skins for something?

I would like to learn how to use the skins. I have never tanned a hide at home before. Anyone? Is there some place you can pay to tan them? A taxidermist maybe would know?

My husband is a taxidermist. It would be so easy to do it at home. The hardest would be to get it soft. I believe there are people who will buy the hides frozen and rolled in salt. They would want your hides because they can be colored.

Congrats on getting your rabbits! I was originally looking for Californians and ended up with Satin and Rex. I loooove the rex fur. Keep telling my rex buck Stu he would make a nice pillow so he should stop peeing over the urine guards!

I use mini Rex for my meat rabbits. They are a nice size and easy to handle. I would like to try the californian rabbits.

Being from Sourthern Arkansas we would all get together and sell our pelts. They have fur shows were dealers buy and trade the skins. Now that I am in Missouri I would have to do a little research. I will get back soon.
