I was recently given 5 white call ducks. (2 Drakes, 3 hens) It appears that one of the hens has started laying. How many eggs does the average call duck hen lay in a season if you keep taking them? I'm just wondering because I'd like to incubate a few and also let one or two of the hens set on some when they're ready. Are they seasonal layers, or will they keep producing throughout the summer? Thanks in advance for any input.

From what I have heard, call ducks are seasonal layers, laying only about 24 eggs a year. I don't know about certain types/breeds, but this is what I have heard.

Mine are seasonal layers. They lay from mid March (depending on the weather) until the beginning of July or so. Mine lay more than 24 egg per year if I keep taking them.

Thanks folks. I've only had them a couple of weeks and I really wasn't much of a "duck guy" until I got these. Now I wouldn't part with them for anything. They were a bordeline rescue, and didn't come from the best of conditions. They were dirty but healthy, and are now looking really good. From what I have seen from pictures of other peoples white calls and what I've read, these are actually pretty nice, typey, short bodied birds. I can't wait to hatch out some more.

No problem. When they start laying pretty good I'll send a few out for test hatches. People here on BYC have very generous to me with both eggs and knowledge. It only seems fair to "pay it forward".

I haven't taken any pics yet because the weather out here on the coast has not been the best recently. I will get some as soon as we see the sun again, if ever, lol.
