Call Duck Eggs

Thanks Nsampsel !!
Yes I do have calls, but right now I have some broody so not getting as many eggs. But I can put you on a list and when I get enough or they start laying again can let you know. Just PM me if your interested in them. This is a couple babies I've had hatch and the parents I have. They free range so are mixed calls.

Just hatched last week.

Another one I hatched 2 months ago.

and the Parents

May have babies available towards middle of month and will be for sale but I will not ship them pick up only.
What beautiful ducks! Are they in pens are do you let them free range? Do you clip wings?

fowllover: Yes they do free range during the day and I don't clip their wings the don't go anywhere but my pond in back yard and down over the hill to creek. They have never flown off and always come back at dusk to be penned at night. They know where the food comes from I guess. LOL

My white and magpie have gone broody so they they have been staying inside coop right now. And the chocolate girls have only been laying a egg or 2 here and there since the other 2 went broody. I've only been getting around a 1/2 dozen a week. Don't know why or maybe they're getting ready to go broody too?? But I also caught them adding eggs to the others nest. So I may get over run with calls. LOL

Oh perfect! We have a pond in our back yard and I was wanting to do the same set up that you are doing. Do you incubate your eggs? May I ask what variables you use if you do? (hand turning, humidty etc)

To tell you the truth I am no good at hatching calls. I put 22 in my incubator to check for fertility 3 months ago. 20 got embryos with a couple quitters but I hatched 1. My humidity is always messed up and they were sticky and upside down in egg and didn't or couldn't pip. I hatched the parents last year and got 32 eggs and 8 hatched. This time to check fertility I stuck 2 under my broody cochin hen and both developed, one hatched and one egg I dropped so I had fixed it with wax, but it made it that one couldn't get out of shell. By the time I helped, it seemed fine but found it dead hour later.
I am having same problem with my chicken eggs this year also. Last month hatch went well and kept humidity at 40-50% and had better hatch than this weeks hatch. And I didn't change anything except the heat isn't on and windows are open now, did exactly what I did last time. Out of 12 chickens I got 2 chicks.
So you may want to ask someone with more knowledge on hatching calls.

Oh and I have a hova bator with a turner. And my temps were 99.5, humidity was 55% and at lockdown was 70-75%. But again, maybe someone that hatches more calls with better luck has more info on hatching them.

Oh I know! Incubating has lots of highs and lows! No matter how much borrowed perception you get from others, it doesnt help when your incubator suddenly spikes!

Yes, between the humidity and the postal service I am not having a very good hatch rate this year!! I just received 14 eggs about 2 weeks ago and 10 of the 14 had loose air cells, none developed anythinng. Thank goodness for the wonderful lady sending me replacements!!
I ordered a total of 54 eggs from different breeders and have 13 chicks. I figured the price per chick and could just cry!!

destin0709 - Your ducks are too cute!

I am incubating some Call eggs I bought on eBay. I am down to 14 out of 24 eggs right now. Unfortunately the seller I purchased from has pretty poor communication. They haven't responded to any of my messages and they haven't bothered to leave feedback for me even though I left good feedback for them two weeks ago.
