Call duck enclosure

Just got two call ducks ,I see everyones pens ,cages ,.Are there benefits of keeping them off the ground in pens than on the ground? Seems the raised pens would be cleaner but how is the wire on the ducks feet?I see that the raised are used for breeding during certain times of the year ,does anyone keep them in there all the time ? Thanks ........

When we still had them they went up for breeding and into aviaries/flight pens otherwise.
